    2. Golden Lake is a small community between Joiner and Wilson. If you were going out of Wilson towards Joiner, it is on the left. During the period of late 1890-1900, it was a thriving little place. This was during the time that the land was being cleared. My husband's family lived at Golden Lake and his grandfather, Thomas William McFarland, at one time had a store there. There is not much left of the town. When Wilson was first settled, Golden Lake was already a town. The area was a swampy, forested area. Lee Wilson came in and cleared the land and went to Washington, D. C. and was able to get the government to put in drainage ditches. Robert E. Lee Wilson came from Tipton Co. TN and is said that he was orphaned early. There are many histories written about the town. Mr. Wilson was quite a colorful and smart business man. Joyce McFarland
