OH MY Word! Is the Osceola Courthouse not a landmark? It has been there as long as I can remember! The last time I was there , The old merchant store just opened as a museum that I really enjoyed visiting. The lady that worked there, was just wonderful and told great stories about Osceola. While I was there , Doctor Farley, ( I have not a clue which one) came in and he told a few stories. Downtown Osceola looked completely different. They said most of the buildings were being repaired. I missed the Belks Department Store and a lot has of other things had changed, if I were to go today , I would not recognize the town. I hope the town does not tear down the courthouse , it would be a great loss . Sincerely ,Donna Porter-Davis
I see someone has already answered the question about the marriage records and Bennie Hays. Just thought I would let you all know that there is talk about abandoning both Blytheville and Osceola Courthouses and building one rather central between them. I truly hope they do not. I have not seen the Blytheville Courthouse but the one is Osceola is very beautiful. Has a wonderful copper top. Would be a shame to tear it down. The people in Osceola are trying to stop it from being torn down. Hope they can. Joyce Shelton

The courthouse in Osceola does have marriage records. I do not know for what years, but I have been there for some information. The people are very helpful. Courthouse is beautiful too. But my grandmother and my dad are not on any census I have looked in all the southern states ,Arkansas ,Alabama, Mississippi . My dad was born ( I think in Osceola) May 6 , 1924 but there is nothing of him in 1930. Then my grandma appeared married to a Clyde Hill a few years later . He worked for the Edrington's at Sand Soui as a farm hand. ( he is on census record . NOT my grandma Porter or my dad Tracy Porter. and family gossip is that grandma Porter met Mr. Hill at Edrington Plantation. She was a house maid there. My question is ..........Is it possible that because my grandma did not read or write and my dad was 6 years old on the 1930 census . ..........could they just not have been counted?? This is a big brick wall for me. Any help or ideas are appreciated . We can only trace our early Casaday to William Casaday who was born in 1790 in GA. He moved from Harris Co. GA to Tallapoosa Co. AL ca 1835. My gr grandfather Jourdon John Casaday, son of William Casaday, and several of his brothers and sisters left Tallapoosa Co. AL and went to Montgomery Co. MS ca 1872-3. From there, Jourdon John's son John Casaday and his wife, and Jourdon's daughter, Georgia Alice Casaday who married William Henry Shelton in Webster Co. MS came to MS Co. AR ca 1920. We do not know William Casaday's parents or siblings. Have lots of information from William forward but nothing before him. I probably cannot be of much help to you. Sorry. Joyce McFarland
