I have read that it is located in the SE part of Blytheville, AR on Ruddle Road in Mississippi County. I am interested in locating it, but would like to know if it is still in existance, is access possible, and the exact location ( what block )? The info I have is that it was cleaned up in the '40s and a family, "Mr. & Mrs. H.J. WADE and their dau- in-law Ophelia RICHARDSON Wade copied the names from stones on October 1, 1968." If anyone has ANY info, please respond to this query or write to ([email protected]) my email address. Thanks for reading my post, Lois

    3. My dad told me that his dad James Luther Goodwin (he lived in White County Arkansas.) went to Mississippi County, Arkansas in the 1930s and tried to recover some of the Hector farm. The story is that he was conned by the estate layers and nothing was ever restored. My grandfather Henslee knew a old black man that he though was a slave on the Hector farm. His name was Doc Hector. Just a family story and can not confirm. 3. I was told that my ggf's sister, Maddie or Mattie (Martha E.) Hardin married a Driver and lived in Mississippi County in a big house. They apparently had a son that would have been born around 1930-1940, at least that's what I was told. Now that seems a HIGHLY unlikely to me since Martha E. Hardin was born c 1868, there aren't too many 60 year old women having kids... I'm thinking that it was probably a grandson that would have been born around 1930-1940. Anyone have any clue on who this could be? Thanks, Cheryl

    3. Dear Lois, I apologize for not being able to respond to your email earlier, it is Spring/Easter Break and we have been out of town. It's possible that the other people that you tried to contact were also unavailable to respond to your questions as quickly as you would have liked, however what I received from you was dated a week ago, not 3 weeks ago. The information that I transcribed on Sawyer Cemetery was sent to me by Bert Fowler. They were photocopies of a typewritten cemetery census. I did not see the actual stones. Some of the question marks that are used in the transcription are there because I could not read that photocopy that was sent, some of the letters were cut off when photocopied. The information that is given online with the transcribed census info for Sawyer Cemetery says the following: "Mr. & Mrs. H.J. Wade and their daughter-in-law Ophelia Richardson Wade copied this cemetery on October 1, 1968." I must also apologize for not being able to help with info on the condition of the cemetery itself. Like you, I, too, am researching from afar. I live in Washington and have never even been to Mississippi County myself. Maybe someone else on the list that is local will know something about the current condition/accessiblity of the cemetery or directions to it. However, the information that is given online with the transribed info for Sawyer Cemetery says: "SAWYER CEMETERY Located in the Southeast part of Blytheville, AR on Ruddle Road, this cemetery had been abandoned had overgrown with bushes and briars. In the 1940's a group of people cleaned it up and hauled away all of the broken stones leaving several concrete bases that are still scattered throughout the cemetery. The following is a partial list of some of the inscriptions from the stones that still remain in the cemetery. Several stones are laying face down and in bad condition. Mr. & Mrs. H.J. Wade and their daughter-in-law Ophelia Richardson Wade copied this cemetery on October 1, 1968." I hope this helps. Good luck in your search. 2. Frankie, You wouldn't happen to remember some Cavasheres or Brooks, Blanch Brooks, Travis Brooks, Harl Cavashere, Fannie Cavashere, Joyce Cavashere, Ada Cavashere, Fannie married Robert Anderson and I think he was from Blytheville or a surrounding area. Joyce married Clarence aka Philip Ashley in Blytheville in 1951. My dad and Mom met on 2nd street in Blytheville back in 1931 during a carnival there. My dad was with the carnival and when he saw my mom he told another carnie " There goes the woman I am going to marry" My dad was originally from Illinois and that is where they lived after they got married in October 1931. My grandfather was John Lee Cavashere and my grandmother was Linnie (Coonich) Cavashere. She worked at the Blytheville Laundry for many many years. I am looking for a photo of the Laundry and year book photos of any Cavasheres that someone might have. It would be so much appreciated. Fannie and Joyce have both passed on in the last 2 years and Ada Cavashere's husband, William Allred passed on in November. They all live down by Alton, Illinois. I live in McLean County, IL as you can see by my signature. If anyone has old yearbooks or old photos of any of the Cavasheres or Brooks I would love to have them. The Brooks included Mary, who was quite short and physically handicapped, Jewel and I think there was a girl named Opal Brooks. I believe they have all moved to Memphis Tn. I figure if I keep putting this information out maybe someone will have something or know Jewel and the others to pass on that people are thinking about them and would like to contact them. Thanks List for putting up with my long winded emails. ~Debbie In McLean County, Illinois~

    3. Joyce, Yes, that certainly is a possibility. He lived w/his father in Joiner, but they also lived in Wilson at one time. Both my parents and grandparents are desceased. I'm going through some old papers/letters/pictures my mother had and came across the school picture w/my father as an adult in the early 1940s standing in front of the school. My mother made the notation that he had attended school there at age 10, which would make it 1919. Wish I could find some information abt the school. Just trying to put my father's history together.
