Hi all, still hoping someone can help me find the burial place of my grandfathher, Silas Watkins. I understand he was buried in Bassett Cemetary in Mississippi County, AR. about 1931-1932. I stopped in the town of Bassett and was shown the cemetary but could not find him there. Can anyone offer any suggestions? Can you check your books for any BISHOPS buried there. My family settled in Chickaswaba Township when there were but 4 white families and abt 100 indians (according to Goodspeeds article). My great, great, great grandfather was William Bishop, b.1818 in Scott Co. Mo. He moved to Chickasawba Twnshp in 1840's. He held the office of Constable for that section and was also a deputy under Sheriff Bowen. "His oldest son, Andrew Jackson Bishop b. 1846 was married to an early pioneer of the areas daughter, her name was Margeret (Maggie) Brown. Her father was Jack Brown. Andrew Bishop was one of the earliest if not the earliest photographers in the area. He also taught school there for 4 years, he clerked in a store, rafted logs for Big Lake, enemurated the 1880 US Fed. Cencus for Chickasawba Township and owned a blacksmith and wagon shop. He was a charter founder of the Chickasawba Lodge No. 134. His children were, Willian Andrew Bishop, Major Green Bishop, Anrora Lurens Bishop and Robert Thaddeus. "William had a daughter named Virginia who married a man named Carney (no first name known). Williams first wife, Diadema Bryant Bishop passed away and he maried a woman named Martha Golden. They had one son together, William Oliver Bishop. Names I am interested in are Bishops, Bonds, Francis, Poole (Pool). I would so appreciated any info. email me @ [email protected]
William Bishop,(my great, great, great grandfather) b.1818 Scott Co. Mo, and moved to Chickasawba Township, Mississippi Co. Ark. in 1840's. William had at least one known brother, Jackson Bishop, who was in the Osceola area in the mid-1830's. Looking for decendants of these Bishops. "William Bishop was married to Diadema Bryant and they had 2 children, Andrew Jackson Bishop, b. 1846 and a daughter, Virginia Bishop, b. abt. 1848 or 50. Virginia married a man by the name of "Carney". Looking for these decendants as well. "Andrew Jackson Bishop married Maggie (Margret) Brown, on August, 15, 1878 and their children were, William Andrew Bishop, Major Green Bishop, Lanora Lurens Bishop, and Robert Thaddeus Bishop. Andrew Bishop enumerated the 1880 US Fed. Cencus for this county and owned a blacksmith and wagon shop. He was a charter member of the Masonic Lodge No.134. I am looking for his decendants as well. "Diadema Bryant Bishop passed away and William Bishop re-married to Martha Golden, they had one son, William Oliver Bishop (my great, great grandfather). "William O. Bishop" married Belle Bonds on 17 Oct. 1878 and they had 12 children. "William Bishop and his sons helped settle the Chickasawba area. William Bishop held the office of constable of that section and was also a deputy under Sheriff Bowen. When first locating to the Chickasawba area, there were about 4 white families and approx. 100 indians. Williams son Andrew was one of the earliest photographers of the area, he also taught school for 4 years, rafted logs from Big Lake, kept a store and then opened a blacksmith and wagon shop. He owned a farm one from Blytheville. "Jackson Bishop, brother of William Bishop and my 3rd great uncle, was married to a woman named Mary. They had 4 known sons, Milton J., Abner F., Daniel R. and also Andrew J. Bishop. Jackson died when the boys were still young and Mary re-married to a man named John Peterson. I am looking for thier decendants also. I Know there are still Bishops in the area who are relatives and am interested in hearing from them. email-- [email protected]

Looking for information on the Sprouse family, especially L. B. Sprouse. L. B. was born April 21, 1906 and died October 13, 1921. She is said to be buried in Dead Timber Lake Cemetery, somewhere near Tyronza. I've been told the Whitton Cemetery at Whitton in Mississippi County was known as Dead Timber Lake Cemetery. L. B. was married March 1918 probably in the state of MS. L. B. was part of a share-cropper family headed by her father, Henry Alfred Sprouse. Any and all leads are appreciated.

This was on another mailing list I'm subbed to: If you have been procrastinating sending off for a Social Security application for any of your ancestors, now is the time to do it! Effective July 1, 2001, there will be a major fee increase for processing requests for copies of original applications for Social Security cards and for computer extracts of this information. This has been confirmed with Roger Williams in the FOIA office of the SSA. New Fees (effective July 1, 2001): Copies of the original application for a Social Security card (Form SS-5) will cost $27 if the social security number is provided, and $29 if it is not provided. These fees were previously $7 and $16.50, respectively. Computer extracts of the application will cost $16 with the number and $18without. Requests postmarked prior to July 1, 2001, will not be subject to the new fees. So, if you've procrastinated on your requests, get them in now! Requests posted on or after July 1, 2001, will be returned if they do not include the new amount and a credit card number has not been provided to charge for additional costs.

I am researching my great-grandmother, Clara Ann Elder, she was born abt.1889 in Mississippi Co, maybe in Paragould. Her parents were Dummie Bartley Elder and Rebecca Adams. D.B. married another woman after Rebecca died, named Belle Mooningham that raised Clara. Clara married John S. Redding. She is buried in Clarkton, MO. If you have any information about these people, please e-mail me at [email protected] Thanks, Lori
