Miller County Treasurer Imogene West dies Miller County Treasurer Imogene West died Monday after a lengthy illness. West, who served in the treasurer's office for 16 years, will be remembered by friends and family as a kind and dedicated person who worked tirelessly in her job and in her church. West's husband, former Miller County Coroner Harold West, died two weeks ago. Miller County Judge Hubert Easley and co-workers at the courthouse expressed sadness at the loss of West's talents as county treasurer. "It's a tragedy that this has happened," Easley said. "She had serious health problems for quite sometime. She did a great job as one of our constitutional officers." Deputy Treasurer Terry Roberts said he had known West "nearly all of my life." "Not only was she a great treasurer, she was a great friend," said Roberts. "She taught me all of the operations of the Treasurer's Office. She will be dearly missed by Miller County." Maxine Rochelle was a co-worker with West prior to her tenure in the Treasurer's Office. "I worked with her for 40 years at GTE," Rochelle said. "She was a very dear friend, always there for me or for anyone who needed any help. Although she didn't have any children of her own, she always had time to help with other people's children." West was also known for her dedicated involvement in church work at Central Christian Church. The Rev. Mark Irons admired her willingness to assume responsibilities. "She was a trustee when I got here," Irons said. "She was a dogged participant in her Sunday School class and an elder of the church. She was a very committed person, committed to the church and to those around her. Throughout her illness, I found her incredibly determined to care for her husband, Harold. Not everyone takes their responsibilities as seriously as she did. We will miss her." Services for West will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Central Christian Church.
