    1. James Saunders Trigg
    2. I recently read in a publication that James Saunders Trigg was one of the founders of a settlement called Rondo, the forerunner of what is now Texarkana. This James Saunders Trigg is an ancestor of my daughter's husband, and we are seeking any information anyone might offer on this person. James S Trigg was born in Tennessee, but moved to Arkansas in the 1830s. He established a plantation adjoining that of Alexander Clarence Owen of Halifax, VA in 1836. These two men decided to start a town, and the site included acreage from both properties. The part designated for stores and public buildings belonged to James Trigg, so he had the privilege of naming the community. The article above also references a publication by Mrs. Talbot Field of Hope entitled Rondo Pioneer Frontier Community of Miller County, Arkansas 1835-1858, and tells of a skirmish on Trigg's plantation about 2 miles northeast of Rondo. If anyone can provide any information on this ancestor, we'd very much appreciate your sharing it. Earlene Lyle
