    1. [ARMILLER] Need information on First and Second Old River area.
    2. Hi, I need any information anyone can send me on the First & Second Old River areas of Miller County. Located in the North Eastern part of the county, the community shows to be Hervey. Named "Old River" because the Red River changed directions. 20 years ago the area was once known for a high concentration of Indian Artifacts. One collection I saw was fantastic. If you know anything else, or have any material on the area, please send it to me. Thanks, V

    1. [ARMILLER] Census Taker Poem
    2. Lori Stevens
    3. CENSUS TAKER It was the first day of census, and all through the land; The pollster was ready ... a black book in hand. He mounted his horse for a long dusty ride; His book and some quills were tucked close by his side. A long winding ride down a road barely there; Toward the smell of fresh bread wafting, up through the air. The woman was tired, with lines on her face; And wisps of brown hair she tucked back into place. She gave him some water ... as they sat at the table; And she answered his questions ... the best she was able. He asked of her children... Yes, she had quite a few; The oldest was twenty, the youngest not two. She held up a toddler with cheeks round and red; his sister, she whispered, was napping in bed. She noted each person who lived there with pride; And she felt the faint stirrings of the wee one inside. He noted the sex, the color, the age... The marks from the quill soon filled up the page. At the number of children, she nodded her head; And saw her lips quiver for the three that were dead. The places of birth she "never forgot"; Was it Kansas? or Utah? or Oregon ... or not? They came from Scotland, of that she was clear; But she wasn't quite sure just how long they'd been here. They spoke of employment, of schooling and such; They could read some, and write some .. though really not much. When the questions were answered, his job there was done; So he mounted his horse and he rode toward the sun. We can almost imagine his voice loud and clear; "May God bless you all for another ten years." Now picture a time warp ... its' now you and me; As we search for the people on our family tree. We squint at the census and scroll down so slow; As we search for that entry from long, long ago. Could they only imagine on that long ago day; That the entries they made would effect us this way? If they knew, would they wonder at the yearning we feel; And the searching that makes them so increasingly real. We can hear if we listen the words they impart; Through their blood in our veins and their voice in our heart. Author Unknown

    1. [ARMILLER] Historical Papers
    2. I have a general store ledger dated 1855 which belonged to James Deas Blanton, a prominent citizen and mercantile businessman in Miller County, AR circa 1856. This book, along with other legal documents, was passed to me by my late father from his great-grandmother. I have just finished reading "The Blantons of Spring Bank" and am wondering what connection Ceasar Abraham, my ancestor, had to the Blanton family and how and why this book came into my family's possession and survived all these years. From an inscription in the book, I know that Ceasar worked for Blanton from 1868 to 1869. Can anyone help? I am also willing to have the book copied and sent to someone for transciption. 2. These are the Boyds that were in Lafayette in 1870, I do not have closer dated info- The ones in Red River Townships were present day Miller. You can see where Red River Township was, or about where it was on this map: http://www.rootsweb.com/~armiller/Millmap.html It tells the townships that were broken off from it later than 1870. 1870 BOYD CHARLES Lafayette County AR 149 Lagrange Township 1870 BOYD DANIEL Lafayette County AR 180 Red River Township 1870 BOYD EDWARD Lafayette County AR 180 Red River Township 1870 BOYD JOHN Lafayette County AR 193 Red River Township 1870 BOYD LILLIAN Lafayette County AR 133 Lagrange Township 1870 BOYD LOUIS Lafayette County AR 180 Red River Township 1870 BOYD MARY Lafayette County AR 149 Lagrange Township 1870 BOYD NANCY Lafayette County AR 181 Red River Township 1870 BOYD THOMAS Lafayette County AR 164 Lagrange Township Do you know the name of the head of household - Which Boyd? I went to the http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ and did not find anything for a Boyd in Miller Co, but these records were in Lafayette - Do not know if it was the part that transferred over to Miller or not though. 1. [ARMILLER] ORIGINAL MARRIAGE CERTIFICATES
    2. Hello List Members, Texarkana USA Genealogical Society has in its possession more than 9,000 Original Marriage Certificates for marriages in Bowie County TX and 2,000 + Originals for Miller County AR. The majority of them are from about 1889 to 1935. A few older, some more recent. The Miller County are indexed by both Groom and Bride. The Bowie County are indexed by Groom only. Currently, we are working to index these by Bride as well but it will take a while longer. They can be obtained for the low cost of $2.50, a SASE and a short lineage chart showing your relationship to the individuals. If you had relatives who married in either of these counties in this time frame, I will be happy to check for availabilty of their certificates. If we have them, you will be notifed on where to send your information so that it will reach the proper person. Will also notify you if they are not available. We would love to get all of these Certificates placed in the hands of family members as they would be a great addition to your family records. Please feel free to forward this mail to any list to which you subscribe. Thanks, Doris Lindblad Hstryhntr2@aol.com
