I have already signed the wait list for the Miller County CD's. The CD that I received from them on the 1900 Bowie County Census is really nice. It is easier to read that I felt it would be. Apparently it was enhanced well at time of scanning. Another thing that is nice about it--S-K provides a "free" copy to USGenWeb to go into the archives to remain there forever. Check out the site S-K Publications Census Books & CDs Other states and counties are available as well. Doris Lindblad
Not sure if this is appropriate but if anyone is interested in adding their name to list for ordering Census Cd's for Miller Co. for the years 1880, 1900, 1910 or 1920 please go to this site and check it out. I have just learned about this list and would like to have them and hopeing someone else will to. S-K Publications Census Books & CDs Thanks, Jean

Friends and co-workers remember Harold A. West as a devoted coroner, an avid Arkansas Razorback fan and a frequent visitor at the Miller County Courthouse. West died Tuesday after a prolonged illness. "He was loved by everyone," said Eddie Hawkins, current Miller County coroner and close friend of West. Hawkins worked as deputy coroner under West from 1977 until West's retirement in 1984. "He knew everyone in Miller County, it seemed like," Hawkins said. "And he was loved by everyone. He was just a super person." West is survived by his wife, Imogene, who is currently hospitalized. The two had no children. "He was sort of a fixture here in the courthouse," said Toby Giles, chief deputy of the Miller County Sheriff's office. Giles said even after West retired in the late 1980s, West would still come by the sheriff's office to keep in touch with officers he knew. "He just loved to visit everybody." West was an active member of Central Christian Church where he served as treasurer for two years and was a deacon emeritus at the time of his death. "I knew him as a very entertaining, jovial person," said Carma Lee Frost, a friend of West and his wife. They were members together of the Fellowship Sunday School Class at Central Christian Church. "He and Imogene used to go to Razorback games together every weekend," Frost said. "They were very close, and they always enjoyed life as much as they could together. Our Sunday school class is very close, and we are feeling this tremendous loss together." West was elected and served as Miller County coroner for 10 years. During those years, he served as president of the Coroner's Association of Arkansas Counties. "He took me under his wings and taught me how to be a coroner," Hawkins said. When West became ill, he and his wife moved into a trailer beside Hawkins' home. "He was a special friend. I'm going to miss him," Hawkins said. West also served as treasurer for the Mandeville Water Department and worked at East Funeral Home for 37 years. He was a member of the Texarkana Kiwanis Club for 25 years. © VHR

As you may have noticed, I have been responding to anyone who posts on the BET.com discussion board that accompanies the article. If you are African-American, see the information at africanancestry.com. Dr. Rick Kittles of Howard U. tests for paternal and maternal DNA for about $300. If you are of European descent, Dr. Bryan Sykes at Oxford ancestors is doing maternal tests for $180. Others will be offering the DNA tests soon. =snip= Good luck, and I will forward any new information about new DNA labs as I find it. Take care, Pearl Duncan >

Posted on: Miller County Queries Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ar/Miller?read=131 Surname: Hill ------------------------- Recommend the you go to a genealogical library and get an approximate date and some first names for the HILLs you are looking for in Miller Co. AR. The net is not good for this type of search. Be aware that Miller County was a part of Lafayette Co. before 1874. The "1820 Miller Co." AR listed in "Handy Book" was actually a part of Texas. My husbands ancestor, John B. Hill, was in Miller Co. AR briefly before moving to Caddo Ph. LA. We have quite a bit of information on him & kin. Another researcher "confused" John B. Hill with another John B. Hill and published an incorrect line. Therefore, we hesitate to give information to an inexperienced researcher. If you are homebound and can not get to a library, please give us what ever information you have that leads you to believe you have an ancestor in Miller Co. AR and we will try to help.
Hi folks, Sorry for the confusion, but I've been learning FrontPage2000, FTP, and web pages all at the same time for the last two weeks. I'm afraid I forgot to create a link to the index page for the various marriage certificates. This was just brought to my attention and I have attempted to repair the links. Please forgive if you find something not working right, just contact me and I'll try to find the proper link and correct it. There are over 200 pages to this site and it was created by a dear friend and maintained until recently by her, it is now my responsibility and I am a newbie to web pages. After adding only a couple of new sections, I now realize I have a lot of work to do to get it all linked together to make it easier to get throughout the site without going back to the beginning for each section in the Table of Contents.
