Rita, Thanks for your help, do you know who the parents of Mary Ann Shipman might be? Don At 03:39 PM 02-09-03 -0700, you wrote: >Don, I gave you incorrect information without going back to my files. No, I don't but I have sent a message to Brenda Mitchell and asked her what was her source for the marriage of George W. Fee and Mary Ann Shi[p]man. Will let you know when I hear from her. Don, I've been fussing this the past few days. Unless a bunch of folks don't know where who was born, it doesn't look to me as if Mary Ann ___, wife of George Washington Fee, is a Smith. Below is what I find at http://www.familysearch.org. Household: Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace. George FEE Self M Male W 24 AR Farmer KY KY. Mary FEE Wife M Female W 26 AR Keeps House TN TN. Maud FEE Dau S Female W 2 AR AR AR. Myrtle FEE Dau S Female W 4M AR AR AR. Robert SMITH BroL S Male W 14 TN At Home TN TN. Minerva SMITH SisterL S Female W 17 TN At Home TN TN. John FERRELL Other S Male W 28 MO Farm Hand MO MO. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Source Information: Census Place Franklin, Marion, Arkansas. Family History Library Film 1254051. NA Film Number T9-0051. Page Number 10D. I could be all off on this, Don, but it doesn't look to me as if Robert Smith (called brother-in-law) b TN 1866 and Minerva Smith (called sister-in-law) b TN 1863 are siblings of Mary Ann (___) Fee. Mary Ann was, apparently, born in AR ca 1854. If Robert and Minerva Smith are her siblings, then Mary Ann's parents went back to TN ca 1862/3 when Mary Ann was aged 8-10 and the Civil War was in full swing. That doesn't make sense in my mind. I know that historically, especially in wills and similar instruments, the terms brother/sister, brother/sister-in-law and cousin were often pretty much synonymous. Could Robert & Minerva be cousins of G W Fee even though his predecessors came from KY? Or of Mary Ann? Aside from all this speculation, I find no Mary Ann Smith, Robert Smith, nor Minerva Smith in either the MCAR 1860 or 1870 census that fit this familial relationship. Of course, it's entirely possible that Mary Ann ___ wasn't born in AR but was born in TN and her parents and siblings came to MCAR after 1870, the parents probably dying before 1880. Have any input on this anyone?
