    3. Carolyn, several of us in the Historic Genealogical Society of MCAR have done some pretty extensive research on the many Cooper families enumerated in the various census records to see which ones fit into family groups and which ones don't. We've also delved into the (after 1873) Baxter Co AR records, Searcy Co, etc. To the best of our knowledge, these two Coopers, John and Philip, could be brothers, but it seems unlikely. Philip and his family arrived in AR by 1853, were in Union Township in the 1860 census, and are no longer in MCAR in 1870. John and his family arrived in AR by ca 1853 or ca 1856, settled first in either Union or Hampton Township, moving either from or to Union Township in 1860 (you'll find them in both townships in 1860 - honest!). One of their children is found married in Baxter Co in 1880, some of the rest are married and in Hampton or Tomahawk Townships in 1880. Daughter Melissa died in 1894 and is buried in Bruno Cemetery in Hampton Township - apparently unmarried. If John and Philip were brothers, they were obviously close enough to move to MCAR together, but not close enough to stay here together for very long. MCAR records are really, really hard to come by before Aug 1887. The courthouse burned 2 or 3 or 4 times during the Civil War. It burned again - to the ground - in Aug 1887 and *all* records were burned at that time. A few deeds were re-recorded, but that's about it. Don't know whether this helps or hinders your research. Sorry we couldn't come up with anything more concrete for you. If anyone else on this list has more information on either of these families, we'd sure be pleased if they'd share with us as well as with you. Also in Marion County, Union Twp was a John Cooper (age 33), his wife, Martha, and their family. Can someone confirm (or otherwise) that Philip and John were brothers--both sons of Thomas and Jane Cooper of Cannon County, TN in 1850. > > Does someone know what happened to Philip and John? > > Thanks > > Carolyn Bowers bowersc@fastdata.net > >
