Greetings Marion Co. AR. Researchers: I am the new kid on the list. My current area of research are my grandparents, Albert Walter HUGHES and Clara Anna RIGGS. They were married in Steelville, Crawford Co., MO., 10 Apr 1898. My mother Edith Anna was born 17 Jun, 1899, Faye Clara was born 17 Feb 1905. The young son referred to in the obit. was most surely between the two girls. The following is the obit of Clara A. Hughes, May 1907. This is from a Cotter newspaper - I dont have a name, or date. It was found in the collection of memorabilia of my maternal gr.grand mother Melvina Annette Stephens RIGGS. ---Died---Mrs. Hughes, wife of Walter Hughes, died at her home in Pittsburgh, Kansas, Wednesday. The body will be brought to Cotter for interment and will arrive on the southbound passenger train today. The body will be met at the depot by the Rebekah Lodge and the Odd Fellows, who will conduct the funeral ceremonies. Mr. and Mrs. Hughes moved from Cotter to Pittsburgh several months ago. They lost a little son at Cotter a year ago and now the body of the mother will be laid beside that of her child. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hughes had many friends in Cotter and these extend their sympathy to the bereaved husband and motherless little daughter. (Actually there were two daughters!) My questions are: 1. Is there a cemetery Book which might show the location of the graves of Clara and her young son? 2. What about funeral chapels which might have been in charge of the services? 3. How would I contact the local chapters of Rebecca Lodge, or the Odd Fellow Lodge? 4. What newspapers were in existence in Cotter in 1907? I suspect that Papa, A.W. Hughes, was transferred by the Railroad to Cotter from MO., and to Pittsburgh, KS. The family was in Steelville, MO., in 1900, and by 1910 he had remarried Lena Mae_______, and the family was living in Pittsburgh Co., OK. Any help will be most thoroughly appreciated. Thank you.
