Desmond Walls Allen, owner of Arkansas Research Inc, has published MCAR Tax Records 1841-1866. Although I don't find the Stiffler surname in the MCAR 1840 census, he could be here by 1842. If you'll go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~arfha and click on commercial sites, you'll find a whole list of Des's books. This one might be helpful. Others might too. Des has a wonderful series she did for PBS a couple of years ago. If you find it on your area PBS channel, it's well worth watching.
