If you can help Bill Please reply to him at: weddleman@biology.semo.edu **************** Linda, I think I have written you before, but the context escapes me at the moment. I just stumbled across your excellent Marion Co., AR sites. Nice work! I am writing you for the same reason that I stumbled across the sites. I am researching the family of my paternal GGG-grandfather Henry Edleman. One of his brothers was Jacob Eddleman, who married Nancy Hinkle and moved from Lincoln Co., NC to Maury Co., TN, and then to Wayne Co., MO. It has been hard to research this family, because Jacob seems to disappear after 1830, and Wayne Co. records burned completely by 1900 in 3 courthouse fires. Recently, thanks to the internet, I have found two men who enlisted in Civil War units named Edelmon (or varied spellings thereof) who list their birthplace as Wayne Co., MO, and thus could be nephews of my GGG-grandfather. One of these was Jesse Edelmon. Jesse (or at least someone named Jesse Edelmon) is in Jackson Co., AR in 1857-1868 (Eldmuns(Edlelman) Jessew 21 m. Sarah Bingham 16 Dec 28 1857; and Eddelmon, Jessee 31 m. Cyntha ann Bryant 28 Feb 23 1868), and then I find a Jesse getting federal land in Marion Co. in 1886. I saw from the deed indices on your site that he also appears in local land records. I would appreciate finding out about more records for Jesse Edelmon if you run across them. (This man seems to have stretched the limit for spellings of Eddleman, so it might be tough.) I would be glad to reciprocate if you are looking for any Cape Girardeau Co. records. Local officials just moved all the old records to our brand-new archives, and one of our genealogical society members is the archivist. Would also like to invite you to our new society web page at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~mocgcgs/index.htm There's a little there now, but we hope to add more later. I note a deed for John Davenport amongst the materials at the site, and can forward the details if you need them. ----Bill Eddleman ********************* Linda lhaasdav@mindspring.com Home.page http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~haas Marion.Co.AR http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion List hostess for -h.a.a.s/l.e.w.a.l.l.e.n/w.a.s.h.i.n.g.t.o.n n.c Interested in Construction? In the MCAR 1880 census (it's on line at the Marion Co page) in Union Township, I find: 205-231 Edelman, Jessee 43 framer MO MO NC. Synthann 38 wife TN -- --. Mery Bell 16 dau AR MO AR. Sarah T. 13 dau AR MO AR. Frances E 4 dau AR MO TN. In "Marion Co. AR 1890" by Helen McMindes: Eddlemon, Jesse b 1835 MO MO NC. Syntha Ann b Nov 1835 AT -- -- (d Dec 1914). Mary Bell dau 26 b AR MO AR. Sarah T dau 23 b AR MO AR. Frances E 14 b AR MO TN. (From the birthplace of the mother of the first two girls, it appears that Jesse was married previously. No later data [ie 1900 census] to prove that all these were here in 1890.) "Marion Co AR Marriage Records 1887-1896" by Marian Burnes & Vicki Roberts: Frank A Sowell aged 21 of Yellville m MCAR 9 March 1896 Ethel Edlemon aged 19 of Yellville. "Cemeteries of Marion Co AR" by Marian Burnes: Yellville Cemetery: Jesse Edelmon 1835 - ??. Looks to me as if this is probably the Jesse Edelman m/1 Sarah Bingham and m/2 Cynthia Ann Bryant. It also appears that his first wife died, probably in childbirth with Sarah who was probably named in her mother's memory. You might check the Jackson Co 1860 and 1870 census to see if they are living there then and what other children they had. They are not in the MCAR 1870 census, but, apparently, moved here sometime before 1880. You might also check the AR Census Index for 1870 to try to determine where they were in 1870 if they're not in Jackson Co AR. Hope this is helpful.
