Afraid, Joan, you wont find any verification of the Harris-Cox marriage in June 1887 because the MCAR courthouse and ALL its contents burned to the ground in August 1887. Unless you find someone with a family bible or some similar record, you'll have to settle for the notice in the Mountain Echo. Death records were not required in AR until Feb 1914. Few were ever kept at the county level and never in MCAR. I've checked "Cemeteries of MCAR" by Marian Burnes, which is the most comprehensive record we have to date, but there's no mention of John Harris. Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you. At the Marion county website, it shows a marriage license issued to Laura Harris, 17 and W S F Cox in the Mt Echo newspaper June 1887 edition. I have not verified this yet. The Cox family moved to Newton county, Richland Creek area. W S F Cox and some of his and Laura's children are buried in the Richland Cemetery. Laura married Nathan Cheek and moved to California. I was looking for a death record of John Harris in Marion county. Thank you for your information. I will contact Sue Thompson. Joan
