Sorry I can't help you with this, Nancy. Marion Co AR did not exist in 1825. Arkansas wasn't even a state yet - it was Arkansas Territory. The 1830 Izard Co census (from which Marion Co was formed) does not contain the surname Coats. Nor does the 1840 nor 1850 Marion Co. census. I find no reference in the Searcy Co. census records either. I've run across the surname Coots in early census records, but don't recall which county. Why not go to http://www.usgenweb.com, click on State Pages, click on the format you'd like, click on Arkansas, click on County Selection list, click on Izard Co or Lawrence Co. Maybe even Fulton Co. This will bring up the web pages for those counties. Maybe you'll have better luck in counties that were in existence in 1825. There just aren't any records here 'cuz we weren't here yet.
