    1. Old Military Road
    2. Can anyone tell me where the old military road was? I understand this was the main road into the Yellville, Lead Hill area in the 1840s. Am I correct? I understand it came through Carrollton, is this correct? Also, how close is West Sugarloaf to Carrollton? I am the world's worst about maps and miles so I need someone's help. 3. Reta, Sugar Loaf Creek in the northeast corner of today's Boone Co. AR. Carrolton is just across the Boone Co. AR border in today's Carroll Co AR about 4 miles southeast of Alpena, Boone Co. AR. The distance as the crow flies is around 29 or 30 miles. There is some disagreement as to exactly where the Old Military Road was. Basically it was the 1838 Benge Trail of Tears which crossed White River into Marion Co. at Talburt's Ferry, went along Fallen Ash Creek and on thru today's Summit, left Summit at today's intersection of RT 412/62 and the Missouri-Pacific and Iron Mountain Railroad in Marion Co, crossed into then Carroll Co. somewhere in the vicinity of Everton, and meandered from there to Carrollton. I've double-checked my memory with what Earl Berry says in "History of Marion Co" as well as the recent on-site documentation done by folks like Don Ott and Bill Wodiel of the Benge Trail research team. It's well known that it never went near the Lead Hill/West Sugar Loaf area. However, there was a road called the Old Salt Road that went from Springfield MO to Carrolton AR, but I'm not sure that anyone has seriously tried to map this old road. Hope this helps.
