I am told by eye witnesses that the first car owned by a Marion County person was owned by a woman. About 1917 Dr. Stoud's wife went to Springfield Missouri and bought a new Model T Ford. She was able to drive all the way to Yellville in one day. When she arrived in town that evening, many had never seen an automobile. She drove all over town, circling the square many times where a great crowd had gathered. She honked the horn so much that the Keeter family that lived out on Brown Church road heard the disturbance in down town Yellville and they came to town just to see what was happening. Dr. Stroud was the dentist in town and had a very nice home. His home was the one that is currently the first house west of the goat milk cheese plant. the second one east of the old post office building. Although the home has been in somewhat bad repair for some time, as I drove by today, 4 July 2002, I noticed that someone was cleaning the windows and it looked like they might be working on a restoration. Hopefully this old and beautiful two story home will be saved and restored. Several people are still living that were patients of Dr. Stroud and they all say he was a great dentist and would just charge sort of what the patient could pay, if at all. Don Ott
