I'm pretty sure, Kelly, that you'll find some references to Talbert's Ferry and to the early Talbert settlers of Marion Co in the manuscripts of Silas Claiborne Turnbo. If you'll go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion, the Marion Co AR web page, you'll find a searchable link there to all 28 volumes of Turnbo's manuscripts. This family removed to Baxter Co AR when it was created in part from Marion Co in 1873. Many of their descendants are still in the area. "Genealogies of Marion Co Families 1811-1900" has a short bit of history prefacing this family genealogy: "Sim," "Fed," and "Wat" Talbert came to AR from KY in the 1820s with their sister Nancy who married John Hargrave of Izard Co. AR. "Fed" settled on White River between Cotter and (now) Bull Shoals Dam. They were friends with the Delaware Indians and Chief Johnny Cake. Started Talbert's Ferry which later became Mooney's Ferry. Charley and "Sim" had the first mail contract ca 1880.
