Hi list, I thought some of you might be interested in part of a message I sent earlier today to some TREAT researchers: Hi TREAT researchers, I have just posted an update to the TREAT info out on Worldconnect. The link is as follows: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/~gdtreat2 This is a significant update (at least is terms of the number of hours it took me to input the new documentation) thanks to a large contribution of obituaries by Max Parnell. These obituaries were primarily for TREAT descendants who lived in Marion County and Baxter County, AR after 1900. I have continued to nibble away at my backlog of data entry, as well, so there are a number of other changes on various other lines. Why not just check your particular line of interest and see if anything's new? . . . Til later, Gary Treat __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mysty Wrote: From what I've been getting, it really seems to be coming from Rootsweb - or at least via a bunch of folks who use Rootsweb. I can hardly believe this, but when the stuff comes in from AFHA-D and ARMARION-D and isn't caught, it makes me wonder a bit. Mysty I can assure you that an attachment cannot get thru the Rootsweb's filters. What does happen is that some of the viruses use a "FROM" address that is found in your address book OR in your in-box which then looks like the message came from one of the lists. If you could open the message and look at all of the headers you would see that Rootsweb's address is really not there. One of the newest worms does not come as an attachment but rather is embedded within the message section itself. I've received a couple of those which Norton caught at the download and killed. Rootsweb has added this nasty bit of business to their filters so it also gets killed before the messages are sent out to the list members. Just remember that we can no longer rely on just not opening attachments. You must keep your virus software updated. No matter whether you use McAfee or Norton or one of the other virus software programs you need to log on at least ever 7 days and download and install the latest updates. I had updated my virus software just prior to collecting my e-mail that contained Mysty's spurious e-mail with the virus. The update I had JUST installed was the one that captured the virus. There is an excellent Virus E-Mail list that keeps up to the minute on the new viruses that hit the airways. If you are interested in joining just send your subscribe message to: VIRUS-DISCUSSION-L-request@rootsweb.com. or you can search the list archives thru Rootsweb.
