Can't tell you a whole lot about the Freck Community of Marion Co. AR, Julie Ann. Currently, with all this ice-cube weather, it's iced in and no one is getting in or out much. Roads to and from are unpaved and some are pretty bad even in good weather. There was a post office there from 1906 to 1953. I'm of the impression, but could be wrong, that the name was chosen by the US Post Office Department in Washington DC. I've not run across the surname Freck in any of my local research so this is quite a surprise to me. It was located in Burnes' Store - which is what most of the locals folks called it. It was located in Section 19 of Township 17 North, Range 16 West. (If you'll go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion, you'll find a site that describes this type of land locating as well as a ca 1916 map of Marion Co.) I think Georgia Killebrew gkille@southshore.com can tell you lots more about it than I can. Her family has been in Marion Co for ages - and she lives near Freck. You might also contact Don Ott dott@centuryinter.net who can either tell you lots about it or point you to where you might find information. I'm sending this to the Marion Co email list in hopes someone there can help more than I.
