    3. I just received a Death Certificate for my Great-great-grandmother, Nancy Abney Wood Utt Meece. She was born in KY but married in Marion County AR about 1848 to Benjamin Wood. Their oldest son Berry Jackson Wood was born in Marion County in 1849. On the Death Certificate her father is listed as Enick (sp?) Abney. This could be Enoch Abney. Does anyone have any record of this Abney? Are the Abneys mentioned in "The Genealogies of Marion County Families 1811-1900"? Does anyone have access to the 1840 and/or 1850 Marion County census reports and are they mentioned on either? Thanks in advance. Larry Copley moses@stlnet.com

    3. Hi Larry. How're you doing? Been a while, hasn't it? Checked the 1840, 1850, and 1860 census for Marion Co and the 1850, 1860 for Searcy Co. There's no listing in any of them for the surname Abney (nor for any variant spelling I could dream up). And there's no mention of any Abney in "Genealogies of MCAR Families 1811-1900" either as a family or as an individual. See if you can find a copies of "AR Census Index 1840" and "AR Census Index 1850" by Accelerated Indexing Systems. Also MO for these years. These give the name, age, and county location of everyone listed in each census. It's entirely possible the Abneys breezed thru MCAR between census years, settling maybe in Fulton Co or Izard Co or Carroll Co or Newton Co or even somewhere in MO. I know Little Rock Library and the AR History Commission have these books so I'm sure one of the larger libraries in St Louis will have them. I also know that Nancy (Abney) Wood's kids mostly married around Springfield MO. It's my guess that Nancy split MCAR during the Civil War - or at least after "Berry" died - and went to MO for safety - or possibly to join family already there. Good luck - and let me know what you find, okay? Would be good info for the WOW family, right?
