Good idea. I am descended from Noah (b. SC, ca. 1790 d. 1850-1860 MCAR) and Mary (b. Ky, ca. 1796 ) BENNETT, one of the original settlers of Crooked Creek. Their son, Joseph, born 1838, married Sarah COWAN sometime. He was my great grandfather. Died Clarksville, AR 1925. Brother Champion Henderson Bennett, b. ca. 1837, married Lydia Cowan. I am stumped for any Cowan ancestors, or any Bennetts before Noah, and do not know Mary's maiden name. A thought might be to look at the AR 1850 Census Index, Jerry. That way you might be able to find where the Cowan girls were at that point in time - if they were in Arkansas. An index exists for every state for most of the census years until the Soundex came out in 1880. I don't have access to one (sometimes wish I did), but someone, somewhere does <of course> I know they're at the Little Rock Library and at the AR History Commission. See if your library can get one on Interlibrary Loan - or has a clue where one might be that's near you. I recommend this 'cuz I have no info on any Lydia Cowan nor on any Sarah Cowan here in Marion Co. The Cowans here came around the 1830s from TN, but there are Cowans all over the place. Who knows? You might just get lucky <grin> Mysty shakerag@mtnhome.com ***************************************** ----- Original Message ----- From: Jerry Bennett <jbennett@brevard.net> To: <ARMARION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 23, 2001 7:52 PM Subject: Fw: Msg from listowner > Good idea. > > I am descended from Noah (b.
