Hi Frances:--It sure has been a long time, hasn't it? How've you been? Keeping busy, I trust <BG> Here's what I have for Big Blue 2 for James and Josie and their kids. JOHN WILLIAM COKER (son of William L. "Yellville Bill" & Elizabeth [Hudspeth] Coker) b MCAR June 1850 m MCAR ca 1869/70 JOSEPHINE "Josie" METHVIN (daughter of John Woodward & Corasanda "Corry" [Nowlin] Methvin) b MCAR Nov 1852. He farmed 640 acres on Hampton Creek, served 10 years as Justice of the Peace from Hampton Township, was a Notary Public, and was elected Sheriff of MCAR 1893. In Union Township 1870, Hampton Township 1880, Union Township 1900. Moved to McAlester OK. Children of John William & Josephine "Josie" (Methvin) Coker. 1 JAMES RANDOLPH "Ran" COKER b MCAR June 1871 d Bentonville AR 1946 bu Bentonville Cemetery m MCAR 8 Jan 1891 JEANETTE POCAHONTAS "Nettie" BURNES (daughter of Thomas & Matilda [Grinder] Burnes) b MCAR 23 Oct 1872 d 1922 bu Layton Cemetery. "Ran" was a farmer and miner. Later he ran the barbershop in Yellville. In Liberty Township 1900. 2 NANCY BELLE COKER b MCAR 1874 m MCAR 20 June 1895 J. C. LONGRAN b ca 1868 of Taney Co. MO. Lived in Marshall, Searcy Co. AR. 3 JOHN WILLIAM COKER Jr. b MCAR March 1877. 4 CALVIN ALONZO "Cal" COKER b MCAR Aug 1878 d 21 Oct 1906 of consumption bu Beckham Cemetery. 5 ELIZA COKER b MCAR June 1882 m J. E. REECE. Lived in Marshall, Searcy Co. AR. 6 EDWARD M. COKER b MCAR 9 Dec 1884 d Marshall, Searcy Co. AR 18 May 1910 bu Marshall Cemetery, Searcy Co. AR m ___. 7 ARTHUR COKER b MCAR April 1888. 8 ANSEL/ANCIL COKER b MCAR June 1889. 9 MARION COKER b MCAR Feb 1893. Unfortunately, because of that !@#$%^&* courthouse fire in 1887, I have no county record of their exact marriage date. Apparently Stan Coker and Jerry Young (among many researchers) haven't found it yet either. And, because they moved to McAlester OK, there are no death/burial records in MCAR. According to "Marion Co AR 1890" by Helen McMindes, they were still here for the 1900 census. In it "Josie" states she's been married 28 years, has had 9 children, all living in 1900. Also according to Helen, John's mother Elizabeth, aged 58, b AR, is living with them at the time of the 1880 census and died 1892. It's my guess they were still here when son Calvin Alonzo "Cal" died in 1906 since he's buried in MCAR. And, by the way, I just checked - they're not in White River Township for the 1880 census, but are in Hampton Township - way the other side of the county. Let me know if I can dig out further info for you. I'll leave McAlester OK to you <hehe> Oh, guess you heard Shelby's computer crashed. Poor guy. But, he's up and running and just as onery/cute as ever <grin> Mysty shakerag@mtnhome.com ************************************************** ----- Original Message ----- From: Frances Fortune <fm_fortune@hotmail.com> To: <ARMARION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 10, 2001 10:23 PM Subject: COKER death lookup as well as marriage lookup > Seeking burial sites and death dates for the following COKER family: > John W.
