As an antique dealer, I run across some unusual items. I have a plate which was hand transferred in England in 1875 to commerate the coal mine explosion of the Swaithe Main Colliery. Several names are listed on the plate. I know these are probably not located in Marion County, but since many fathers, sons, and grandsons died in this explosion, it might shed some light on where they went. Hope this helps someone. The plate is fired pottery and I was told so many families were left without a man to provide for the families that the local religious order (probably catholic) printed two commemerative plates and the proceeds went to the families who needed help. I only had one plate. My family was in Boone and Marion County in 1840s so it didn't help me, but it might help you. Let me know if I can help. Reta DeShields Parton rpsodapop@aol.com
