. (Remember, folks, we got our first paved roads in the 1940s, our first mostly county-wide electric power in the 1950s, and some folks still haul their water today.) Mysty shakerag@mtnhome.com ====================================================== Mysty and all the list, I am sorry if this might be off subject for posting to the list; BUT when I read what Mysty said about the 1940's. It brought back a 58 year old memory of a six year old girl begin taken my her mother to Eros, where her mother had been born and grew-up. I remember the dirt roads and oil lamps, now the store in Pyatt had electric power, but the gas pump still had to be pumped my hand, I know because one time Mr. Milum was putting gas in a car and here was this six year old neice, pumping away on the handle, to keep the gas showing in the tank on top of the pump, needless to say, her mother gave her a fanny warm-ing. There was a railroad bridge over a creek and the water of that creek was the coldest water I have ever set my feet in. Oh, for those days again. If only that small girl had of known that years and years later she would be looking for the ancestors that had called Marion county home, she would have LISTENED to the talk of the old people, instead of playing. Mysty, thank you for taking me down memory lane. My lines in Marion County are: John T. GILLEY, Pleasant R. DAVIS, Floyd MAGNESS, George MILUM, Lige/Lark McLEAN and alot of connecting lines. Definitely *not* off subject, Wakley :-))) Memories like these are wonderful for everyone to hear about. Actually, this reminded of similar occasions at my grandfathers' store when I was around 6 (mid-30s, though). Mothers did tend to get upset over their daughters pumping that "smelly, old gas," didn't they <grin>. And coming home all dusty and grubby and reeking of skunk cabbage and usually hauling some sort of sun bleached bones. Oh, my, the memories <BBBG> Thanks, Wakley.
