You did send some info on a couple of children of Joseph and Rachel (Rea) that had married into the Smothers family. Do you have a list of Joseph and Rachel and children? as in Census, perhaps? Also, I have some other Magness' that I'm trying to connect to the ones you've mentioned. Is anyone else working on this line??

    3. Here's some info for you. As usual, there's always someone working on the Magness family. It's quite large, married into a myriad of different families, settled in several places in the area. Best thing to do is be in contact with ARMARION-L and to dig thru the Marion Co web page http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion to find folks working on the Magness (or any other) family. I can't guarantee the accuracy of all dates and relationships. The Marion Co courthouse was burned twice during the Civil War and again in Aug 1887 when *ALL* county records were destroyed. For example, Joseph Magness (h/o Rachel Rea d/o Capt John C Ray) b 1822 d 1859 bu Patton Cemetery indicates to me that the Mary E Magness that married William Marion Smothers probably is not the daughter of Joseph and Rachel. Or William Marion Smothers didn't marry a Magness at all. FYI - I'm not researching the Magness family. I'm a researcher for Marion Co and all the folks that have lived here. I help compile the genealogies of MCAR families for books for the Historic Genealogical Society of MCAR in an effort to have the families as accurate as possible so I'm juggling around 800-1000 families at once <groan>. Hope some of this is helpful. Marion Co AR 1860 census - Blythe Township. # 386 Rachel Magness 40 TN [widow of Joseph Magness] James H 14 MO. Martha 13 MO. Joseph M 11 MO. Wilkshire [sic] 9 AR.
