    3. Sharon, this book isn't indexed. I have a copy of the original copy here at home. Flipping thru it quickly, I've not spotted any references to either Brantley or Lumpkin. W R Jones talked with the children and grandchildren of the really early settlers of MCAR, trying to learn as much as he could about the really early days of MCAR. He wrote about the Indians; the Old Military Road; the early ferries across White River; the pioneer families of Abram Wood, Obediah Wood, Hurst, Magness, Talbert, Williams, Jenkins, Tabor, Hudson, Flippin, Coker, etc. and the families they married into; and gives a good picture of the life and times and scenery and places in the really early years of MCAR. W R Jones came to MCAR in 1887, the year the courthouse burned to the ground. He recognized the need to put into print (in his newspaper, The Mountain Echo, actually) some of the information lost in that fire. It's an excellent source of primarily historical value with much genealogical information sprinkled generously throughout.
