Hello everyone, This day is over and we never felt any aftershocks here in Gig Harbor. I'm just across the Narrows Bridge (formerly Galloping Gertie) from Tacoma. I'm not terribly far from Puyallup, 12/15 mi., Fort Lewis, 15 mi., about 25 miles north of Olympia and about 20 miles from the Nisqually Basin which is where the epicenter of the Pac. NW quake was. I heard on the news tonight that only one person died of a heartattack and they are blaming it on the quake. This is not the worst quake I have been in. The '71 quake in the San Fernando Valley, So., Cal. was the most violent I have ever experienced and lasted a "never ending" minute and the aftershocks went on for 2 years. The size of the quake, today, had numbers all over the place. After all the data was in from around the world it settled at 6.8. It's a ride I would rather not have taken. The worst of everything is what is being shown on TV but our little town on Gig Harbor looked just as it has always looked. No fallen bricks or visible damage. Greg and I took a late afternoon drive into town and everyone was marketing and shopping as they always do as if nothing had happened. I never did hear any news about Tacoma or Puyallup. Puyallup is about 12 miles east of us as the crow flies. Downtown Tacoma is almost all brick. The damage there must have been terrific. Well signing off with news from "almost" ground zero. Thanks for the prayers and thoughts from many of you. There are few who have been injured considering the size of this quake and those people need our continuing prayers. You are all great and it was so nice to hear from so many of you. If anyone wants to talk about this with me please mail me off list. Note: I'm late in getting all your messages because I'm on the Digest list. This list waits till it has a certain number of bytes before it automatically sends it out. If you ever have questions of me, please write me personally at: rhioreh@mail.com Now, good friends, back to genealogy. Rhio listowner
