Mary, I probably know very little more and maybe less about Perry G. Carter than you know. As I recall he was born ca. 1825 in SC, served in the Civil War in Tennessee and then moved to Cross County Arkansas. As the Marion History History states it was to swampy for him so he moved to the hills about 1869/70. He served as Marion county Treasurer. He died at about 50 as I recall and olive was able to hold on to he house until it was bought by their daughter Lilly and W.R. Jones. Lilly and W. R. were married about 1895. As I recall from the stories in the Echo, Mrs Carter ran a boarding house all those years. The house is listed in the Nationial Registry #87000979, it was listed in 1987. I have looked at the entry and very little information is given. Only that it is still privately owned and occupied. Will put a copy of this on the county list, maybe someone will know a lot more than I do and be able to help you. Hope this helps.
