Wondering if anyone can help me. I believe Handy DeShields died shortly before March 16, 1899. Does anyone have access to the local newspapers for that time period? I believe he would have died prior to that time due to the sell of his land. I would expect an obituary to be close to that time or at least between February 1-March, 1899. Also, if you have access to the newspapers, could you check to see if there were any legal notices before March 20, 1899? This is the closest I have been to finding out the date of his death.
