    3. Reta, here's some information for you Timeline. 1803 - The Louisiana Purchase occurred, bringing about 1 million acres west of the Mississippi under the ownership of the US. A portion of the Purchase became Louisiana Territory and covered what is today LA, AR, MO and probably more. 1811-1812 - New Madrid (MO) earthquake. 1812 - Louisiana Territory was divided into smaller areas. Arkansas became part of Missouri Territory at that time. 1813 - 31 December - Missouri Territory was subdivided into counties. AR was in New Madrid CO, Missouri Territory. 1815 - 15 January - New Madrid CO. was subdivided. AR was then in Lawrence Co. Missouri Territory. 1819 - July 4 - Missouri Territory was subdivided. Arkansas Territory was created then and encompassed Lawrence Co. 1823 - 1 November - Carroll CO. was created from Lawrence CO. Arkansas Territory. 1825 - 2 October - Lawrence Co. AR Territory was subdivided. Izard CO. AR Territory was created. 1835 - 3 November - Searcy CO. was created from Izard Co. AR Territory. 1836 - 15 June - Arkansas Territory granted Statehood. 1836 - 29 September - Name of Searcy CO. AR changed to Marion Co. AR. 1838 -13 December - Searcy Co. AR recreated out of lower half of Marion Co. AR. 1838 - December - Being Trail of Tears passed thru Marion CO. AR, meeting up with a trail coming down from MO, passed thru/near Carrolton, Carroll CO. AR. and arrived in Indian Territory (OK) January 1839. 1857 - September - Mountain Meadow Massacre in Utah Territory. 1861 - 1 June - AR State Legislature adopted (by a one-vote majority) the Constitution of the Confederate States of America, thus seceding from the United States of America. 1861-1865 - Marion Co. courthouse burned at least twice. 1869 - 9 April - Boone Co AR created from the western portion of Carroll Co AR. 1887 - August - Marion Co courthouse burned to the ground, reducing all county records to ashes. The only thing I know about the Mincy Meteor is that is was FOUND in Taney Co MO in 1857. Have no idea when it actually fell to earth. A courthouse could not have burned in Harrison during the Civil War. The courthouse would have been at the county seat of Carroll Co, which I believe was, at that time, Carrollton. I'm pretty sure that Harrison wasn't in existence during the Civil War anyway. The "important town" in eastern Carroll Co seems to have been Bellefonte. [Dubuque and Lead Hill were located in Marion Co at that time.] HGSMCA has an interesting little book called "Marion County - The Divided. 1861-1865" which discusses events in an around Dubuque and includes the description Roger Logan wrote for the "History of Boone Co AR. Turnbo indicates Dubuque began being built ca 1840. On 12 May 1854 the Worth PO was moved to Dubuque. A Marion Co sheriff was shot and killed on the road between Dubuque and Lead Hill. This little book is only $5 + $1 shipping. Another little book the Society has is "Tutt - King - and Everett War" - also $5 + $1. It tells the story of this infamous feud - the only time the State Militia was called to the aid of a county in AR - which ended in 1849. There's much history for Marion, Boone, and Carroll Cos on their web pages as well as on the Mountain Meadow Massacre web page. And Roger Logan is very thorough in his discussion of Boone Co history in "History of Boone Co AR." Don Ott and others have much data on the Benge Trail of Tears on the Internet. Hope this is all helpful.
