This message came thru to one of my e-mail subscription list addresses. I'll post it here and if anyone can help the poster please reply directly to: [email protected] ***************** My Husband, Kenneth Nida & I were in Yellville in August......We were looking for the grave sites of Albert M. Reed and his wife Cynthia Addlyn..They are buried in the Yellville , Layton, Cemetary south of town. Cynthia died July 20, 1930 and he died Aug 31, 1940. He is said to have had a Native stone with his name on it....Some older family was able to give us a 25 foot location area.....We had planned on putting up headstones.....We were told there were no records kept on the cemetary....years ago, Marion Burns was kind enough to get a copy of Alberts Obiturary, would like a copy of Cynthia Addlyn's Obit. but was told newspapers of that date were not available? Surely someone kept records on the Cemetary. Would you know someone who might be able to help us. We definitly want their names in the next Cemetary Book and added to the existing ones where possible. Albert M. Reed was a well-known Baptist Minister in Yellville area...He raised my Husband's Mother and her B! rother, Sandford and Bonnie Reed....HELP!, any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Viva, the Mountain Echo newspaper, published in Marion Co AR weekly from April 1886 to 2000, is available on microfilm thru about 1992 or 1993. Obituaries weren't published until fairly recently in the familiar "Obituaries" columns of today's newspapers. Usually they were sort of tucked in here and there - if there was an obituary at all. Copies of these microfilm can be searched at the Arkansas History Commission. You can write to them at Arkansas History Commission One Capitol Mall Little Rock AR 72201 or check ordering information at their email site http://www.state.ar.us/ahc/ahc.html. To the best of my knowledge, there are no burial records for any cemetery nor at the oldest funeral home in Marion Co AR as far back as 1930 or 1940. None of the cemeteries in the county are officially attached to any sort of cemetery association, church, or civil entity. "Cemeteries of Marion Co" by Marian Burnes is the best source available for this type of information - but it doesn't include much on native rock headstones because any writing that may have originally been on them becomes too weathered too quickly to be readable. It's possible that Burns Funeral Home, 725 Panther Ave, Yellville AR 72687, might have some information, but I seriously doubt any of their records go back that far. It's also possible that the City of Yellville, City Hall, Yellville AR 72687, might have information, but, again, I doubt it. Sorry I can't be more specific. This is a problem run into by us researchers on a regular basis. We just do the best we can.
