Good Morning everyone. The Marion Co list is now back in operation. Rhio (the list manager) has had a couple of family emergencies and has been out of town for awhile and it will be awhile before she's back. In the meantime she asked me to take care of the Marion Co list. The problem with the list is fixed and everyone may now post freely. If you have posted something in the past few weeks that has not come thru on the list please see if you can find your message and repost it. Hello! Thought I'd take a second to introduce myself to y'all since I've just signed onto the list. My name's Darren Hellwege. I live in Columbia MO now but grew up in Oklahoma, just outside Oklahoma City. I'm married with two kids (Kristian's 12, Janie Beth's 10) and I'm a radio announcer and programmer at the University of Missouri. I'm a big sports fan, from European and North and South American Soccer to Cardinals baseball and Rams football to my daughter's youth basketball team. I've also become very interested in recent years in family history. I have a couple of branches of my tree that run through Marion Co through my grandparents, Binum Dixon Roberts and Mildred (Ott) Roberts. Both were born in that area, Papa near Bellefonte and Mema around Yellville. Still a lot of Otts in the area, and we're kin to Morris and Keeters and Hudspeths and Sharps in those hills. The family lines in which I'm interested in digging up more info include: Roberts, Ott, Stanley, Patterson, Rea, James, maybe others. The furthest back our line can be traced through the Roberts side is to a Newberry James Sr., who went from Kentucky to Tippah Co. Mississippi. His son Newberry Jr. came to Marion Co. AR following the War Between the States, and his daughter Elizabeth married a Roberts. Their son was Loren Lee Roberts, who was Binum's dad. I'd love to hear from anyone there who knows any of my family! Mom and Dad still live in Oklahoma and are doing well, my brother's a Physician's Associate and my sister grooms dogs, and they're both around Edmond/OKC, too. We lost Binum a couple years back in January, but he'd lived a long good life and is about the greatest man I ever knew. Mildred passed away in 92, right before my daughter was born, but she was the only one we told we'd have a girl and name her Janie for my mom. From her I get a love of sports (OSU COWBOYS!!) a tall frame and a touch of arthritis (not her fault, I know.) I've always loved visiting with cousins and aunts and uncles in Arkansas and the beautiful hills around the area, and my wife Bonnie and I have our own ties there now, having been married at Pleasant Ridge in 1990, so our names will always be in the books in Marion County, too! I could rattle on more, but that's all for now. Looking forward to visiting with y'all!
