    3. Dear Mysty, I am not sure if my reply should be sent to your email address or the ARMARION-D address, but here goes: I am very grateful to you for sending me those items. I have seen many of them, particularly the 1870 census. But the one that really helps is the ones from "Genealogiesof MCAR Families 1811-1900." Guess I'll have to get a copy. I did not know that Amanda KANE (must be CAIN) md. James Lafayette PANGLE. That helps! I interpreted a couple of the census entries differently than the ones you sent, but realize they are hard to read and probably have lots of errors in the original, also. The one about Minerva CAIN and her household: I thought the three young men were surnamed SHELTON, not CAIN. I still think so. One reason is the names of those buried in the CAIN Cemetery, taken from the ARMARION cemetery records. Grave Name Grave 1-6 unknown 1-6 7 Mrs. Sally Shelton 7 8 Tom Shelton 8 9 Pet Shelton 9 10 Jerome Cain 348 11 Jim Cain 346 12 Minerva Cain 347 So, see, this Tom Shelton and his family were buried with Jim and Minerva CAIN. So he must be the same person as the SHELTON, Thomas with Minerva CAIN on that census. But then that also complicates another of my theories, which is that Minerva CAIN md Robert CASEBOLT later. If she did, then why was she buried with the name CAIN. Guess I should check to see if Minerva CASEBOLT is buried in any of the cemeteries. Also, I will send for Robert CASEBOLT's pension records to see if it mentions his wife's previous surname. Does anyone already have a copy of it? I also looked with new eyes at the census entry for Mary STARR and the 3 young people with her. The Angeline CAINE I was sure was the dau of James M CAIN and Amanda M STONE. But I wondered who the Mandela and George STARR were. But now I think they must have also been CAIN children. The 1860 census of Ozark Co, MO shows the family of James CAIN like this: James M. CAIN 46 m w farmer Tenn Sarah C. " 23 f w " Eliza " 20 f w Alab James " 12 m w Mo Spencer C " 11 m w " George W. " 8 m w " Amanda M " 4 f w " Angaline " 1 f w " Isaac 24 m b Tenn Bice 24 ? b " Pleasant 9 m b " You will note that the three younger children are the same (or nearly the same) as the three with Mary STARR. The ages for Mandala and George don't quite jive, and there is the difference between Amanda M and Mandala. So if these are the same people, then who is Mary STARR? Could she be an aunt? Or perhaps a grandmother? I'm slowly piecing it together. Thanks again for the help. ----- Original Message ----- From: <ARMARION-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: <ARMARION-D@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 21, 2001 2:40 PM Subject: ARMARION-D Digest V01 #6

    3. Your reply via ARMARION-L is just great, Pat. As Rhio says, this is the way to "catch" folks who might have bits and pieces of info on this family. And it's also the best way of sharing with others. And citing sources informs folks of some of the places info can be found. It can be real helpful all the way around. If list members aren't interested, they can hit their "delete" key. Looks like you can drop the Cain-Casebolt theory, Pat. Found this tonight in "Marion Co. AR 1890" by Helen McMindes. This is a reconstruction for MCAR of the lost 1890 census. A marvelous aid to MCAR researchers <grin>. J. M. Crews. A Jeremiah Crews, 38, and his family is found in Sugar Loaf Township in 1880. There is a son James Crews, 14, and a son George W Crews, 7. In 1900, George W, 27, is living with his brother-in-law, Charley Treece, and in the household of Robert Casebolt are his (Jeremiah's) grandchildren, John M. Crews, 11, and Marie Crews, 4. This James Crews, 14, might be the J E Crews you think married Avarilla Cain. Age is about right, isn't it? Also found in "Genealogies of MCAR Families 1811-1900" this reference to the Sheltons in Cain Cemetery. Thomas Shelton b MO ca 1855 (parents also b MO) m Sarah ___ b AR 1860. In LIttle North Fork Township 1880. 1880 Marion Co census - Little North Fork Township. Thomas Shelton 25 farmer MO MO MO. Sarah 20 wife AR AR AR. [Obviously they hadn't been married long 'cuz they don't have any kids yet.] By the way, don't assume that because folks are buried in the same small cemetery that they're kin. There are some cemeteries in MCAR with a family name, but only one - maybe two - people buried there that carried that name. The rest aren't kin at all. Maybe sort of near neighbors, but not kin. I'll leave you with all this tonight and dig around a bit more tomorrow.
