I, too, choose to reply via the list, Patsy. Surely someone out there somewhere has a tidbit or two for you <grin> Was looking over what you've sent and got to wondering. Have you ever tried searching the AR Cenus Indices? Accelerated Indexing Systems (or something like that) indexed about every census for the whole country up until, I think, when the 1880 Soundex came out. It might pay to take a look at the AR 1860 to see if you can find any of these folks living in AR. The index will tell you in what county they are at that point in time. You might even try TX for Davis Hudspeth <BG> Because, apparently, everyone in the Thomas Stephens family either died or moved or married or something, they're not in MCAR in 1860. The only person I find that's even close is a David Steveson aged 11 b AR in Buffalo Fork Township in 1860. He's living with D L Thomas 35 KY, Salinda 30 TN, Rebecca 4/12 AR. Oh, wait. Here's a possibility. This comes from MCAR 1860 for Hampton Township and from the unedited/unchecked info in the Supplement to "Genealogies of MCAR Families 1811-1900." JOSEPH FRANCIS HUDSPETH (son of George Hudspeth) b TN ca 1825 d MCAR ca 1876 m/1 SARAH WOOD(?) b AR ca 1828 d 1856/9; m/2 ca 1860 HANNAH ELIZABETH ADAMS (daughter of George & Mariah Louisa [Lynn] Adams) b MCAR May 1840. In Union Township 1850. In Hampton Township 1860 next door to Lynn Adams. In Union Township 1870, 1880. Hannah m/2 James Franklin Hudsepth. JAMES FRANKLIN "Frank" HUDSPETH (son of George Hudspeth) b TN 1822/7 bu Georges Creek Cemetery m/1 LUCINDA ___ b AR 1827; m/2 HANNAH ELIZABETH (ADAMS) HUDSPETH (daughter of George & Mariah Louisa [Lynn] Adams, widow of Joseph Francis Hudspeth) b MCAR May 1840. In Union Township 1850, 1860, 1880. In Blythe Township 1900. Children of Joseph Francis & Sarah (Wood) Hudspeth: GEORGE E. HUDSPETH b AR ca 1848. PHEBE HUDSPETH b AR 11 Oct 1849 d Zinc, Boone Co. AR 26 April 1935 bu Keesee Cemetery m 15 July 1865 NATHANIEL GLENN AUSTIN (twin son of Raleigh "Rollin" & Mary Ann [McDaniel] Austin) b TN 7 June 1845 d Zinc, Boone Co. AR 22 Feb 1945 bu Keesee Cemetery. MARGARET ELIZABETH HUDSPETH b AR 1854 m MCAR 1871 NEWTON J. BEARDEN (son of John Martin & Mary [Warren] Bearden) b Lincoln Co. TN 20 March 1849 d Clabber Creek 1 Dec 1924 of pneumonia bu Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. (see Bearden family page 30) [Note: MCFams says she's d/o Marvin A & Nancy (Cowan) Hudspeth] THOMAS D. HUDSPETH b AR 1855. In Blythe Township 1900. What if the George E Hudspeth b AR ca 1848 were actually b AR 1846 and is the *nephew* of Joseph Francis rather than his son? He's still with Joseph & Hannah in the 1870 in Union Township aged 21. And there's a George L Hudspeth 27 AR AR AR in Hampton Township 1880 married to Didama 26 AR IL IL with James M 6 AR AR AR, Robert F 4 AR AR AR, and John L 2 AR AR AR. I'm not saying he's *not* Joseph's son - I'm just suggesting a possibility. And a pretty far-fetched one at that <sigh> Will check the Washington Co TN marriage records probably tomorrow evening. And do check out the 1860 Census Index. (I have copies of several "family published" books.) I also wonder if the Eliza shown on the census as age 28 is the daughter Catherine Eliza. She is shown in the Washington County, TN 1850 census in the home of her uncle David Stevens along with her two sons George W. and Francis M. ages 2 and 1. Also, my information shows Catherine Eliza being born in 1829 and this is the age shown on the TN census. The Eliza shown on the Marion county census could be wife of Foster, otherwise where would the 9 month old Samuel belong? True enough, as the family legend goes, there were deaths of daughters-in-law from fever while enroute to AR, but Foster could have remarried to Eliza thus accounting for Daniel age 2 and Samuel 9 months. > > Oh yes, the family shown as family #322-323 was Henry Stevens, Margaret Adams Stevens and their first two children. > > Just can't figure out who this 4 year old Hudspeth child in Thomas' household would be. One possibility, if Foster did marry Eliza as second wife, was she a Hudspeth widow with this child? > > The more I think about this, the "muddier the water get"! > > Anyway, thanks again! > > > > > ============================== > Visit Ancestry's Library - The best collection of family history > learning and how-to articles on the Internet. > http://www.ancestry.com/learn/library >
