    3. Alberta Brightwell is listed in "Cemeteries of Marion Co." by Marian Burnes in Burnes/Freck/Water Creek Cemetery. Alberta Brightwell 1878 - 1938. Think her husband was Dave Brightwell. He's also listed in Burnes/Freck/Water Creek Cemetery. Dave Brightwell 1873 - 1937. 3. No birth nor death records were recorded on the county level. As of Feb 1914, births and deaths were to be recorded on the state level. This was not done often nor consistently until close to the 1940s. "Cemeteries of Marion Co." by Marian Burnes lists under Burnes/Freck/Water Creek Cemetery: "Julia Ann (Burnes) Smith d/o Thomas Burnes w/o John 1839 - 1875. John Smith 1835 - 1910." Whether there are head stones or tomb stones remaining for these individuals, I have no idea. If they do exist, I'd be doubtful if there is legible wording on them. Maybe someone on this Marion Co list is more familiar with that cemetery than I am or lives closer to it and would be willing to take a look for you. 3. Don't rightly understand this, Wilma, but will look into it. Don't have the Searcy Co 1900 here at home. But the original microfilm is at our Research Room at the library as are the MCAR 1900, 1910, and 1920. Not that I'm not sold on Ruby Lacy's accuracy, but I'll check the film just in case. And see what I can find on the MCAR and SCAR 1910 too. Vicki and I could have made a mistake in "Big Blue," but, if we did, you're the first to catch it. Juggling over 400 families plus the voluminous stack of research materials ain't the easiest thing to do, but it sure is lots of fun. And you learn SOOOOO much about your county and its people. But, there's bound to be a mistake or two or ten. And I'm not the best typist in the world <grin> Will get back to you. Have kinfolks from Ohio pulling in Wednesday for 2 weeks so it may take me a while. 3. First off, Joyce, Cozahome is in Searcy Co AR around 5 miles south of the Marion Co boundary on Rt 14 so there will be few, if any, records in Marion Co. Second, I don't find the surnames Nance or Haynes in the Searcy Co. census records for 1850, 1860, 1870, nor 1880. If, in fact, they traveled the 1838/9 Trail of Tears, dropping off somewhere along the way, they didn't stay in the Searcy/Marion Co area or their names were different or they hid out exceptionally well. Third, there was more than one Trail of Tears. Seems to me there were like nine - maybe more. None that I'm aware of followed the same route as any of the others. They were pretty much scattered from around Illinois/Indiana south to Mississippi/Louisiana - all heading west. Some were by land and some were by water (rivers). And it was very *definitely* a no-no to leave the group and go off on your own. There would very definitely NOT be a list of those who "went AWOL." And those who did run away hid out for years, changed their names (even first names), and never, ever mentioned being Indian or from one of the Trail groups. They were terrified for their lives so sure didn't "sign up" to leave. Somewhere I've run across a couple of lists of Indians traveling the Trail of Tears. They are more like a roster of the names of those under the auspices of the white folks in charge of leading a particular group and appear to be more of an inventory of their goods or the items (like blankets and cooking pots) provided by the group leader under the terms of the Removal treaties. There are several good sites on the Internet covering the history and removal of Indians to Indian Territory. They'd probably be of lots more help to you than I can be. Served in the Confederate army and was wounded in the jaw at Wilson's Creek. His half-brother: Trammel M. Rea b IL 1842. His full brother: John Carroll Rea b IL 1844 killed at Glasgow MO during the Civil War. His full brother: Leonard D. Rea b IL 1846 served in Shelby's command in the Civil War. Lots of Civil War info can be found at http://www.couch.genweb.com/arkansas. Click on Original Civil War Page. It's probably the most complete site for Arkansas data there is - and it grows constantly. Information on the Rea family can be found in the 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, and 1920 census for Marion Co. 3. Brenda, in 1870 the boundaries of Marion Co were very different from what they are today. And Baxter Co did not yet exist. The eastern boundary of Marion Co in 1870 included Mountain Home which was in Rapps Barren Township. In 1873 Baxter Co was created from parts of Marion, Searcy, Izard, and Fulton Co. The eastern boundary of Marion Co became, basically, White River. And Rapps Barren Township became part of Baxter Co. Unfortunately there are no extant maps nor boundary descriptions for townships this far back in time so no one can be precise in the exact location of Rapps Barren Township as early as 1870. As a researcher for Marion Co, I've not come across references to Mountain Creek. I'd guess it's now in Baxter Co. I'd suggest you check there for information.
