The Marion Co AR courthouse burned 2 or 3 times during the Civil War and again - big time - in Aug 1887. Absolutely no county records of any sort - including marriages - survived these fires. Therefore, there is no county marriage book in which you'll find this marriage. Other than taking what the census records indicate as a probable marriage date (based upon the birth year of the first child), your only alternative is to find someone with a family bible or, possibly, a preacher that filed his records with his church. Good hunting. The traffic may be slower because anyone who could get there is in Harrison, Arkansas for the meeting that began today and continues through Saturday. I really wanted to go but had prior commitments. Peggy in Tulsa
For your records, some of this might be useful, Wilma. The 1880 MCAR census for Water Creek Township lists: #167-167 William Taylor 45 farmer AR KY KY. Jane 41 wife AR KY KY. Rebecca 15 dau AR KY KY. Russel 12 son AR KY KY. LEVI 11 son AR KY KY. Rufus 10 son AR KY KY. Joseph 9 son AR KY KY. John 6 son AR KY KY. Nancy 5 dau AR KY KY. David 2 son AR KY KY. Ruben 1 son AR KY KY. "Marion Co Marriage Records 1887-1896" by Marian Burnes & Vicki Roberts lists: A R Taylor 24 Tomahawk m MCAR 1 Oct 1891 Rebecca Younger 18 Water Creek (p 32). R M Taylor 20 Tomahawk m MCAR 18 Oct 1891 M F Younger 18 Tomahawk (p 32). E C Smith 21 Water Creek m MCAR 19 Nov 1891 Nancy E. Taylor 15 Water Creek (p 33). Addie Taylor 19 Bruno m MCAR 9 July 1904 Tolly Goodall 21 Cowan (p 66). Frankly, Wilma, I would guess that someone unfamiliar with penmanship idocyncracies misread "Levi" for "Lenie." You know yourself that, having spent 5 or 10 or 20 years deciphering handwriting on microfilm, it wouldn't be a difficult mistake for a neophyte to make <hehe> Looks to me as if Vicki and I got Levi's kids mixed up with Rufus's kids in Big Blue 1. I don't have access to the MCAR 1900 here at home, but it's on microfilm in our research room at the library. It may be a while, but I *will* check this. I have the 2-day Ozark Cultural Celebration in Harrison this weekend, the fire department BBQ next weekend (we feed 500-600 every year), and then comes 3 days of Turkey Trot. Somewhere in between all this I have to finish the October "Bramble Bush" and get it to the printer so I can get it in the mail <groan> By the way, never realized you were involved with the John Hobbs Adams bunch. We here in the boonies have just become aware of this - your data could be most useful for Big Blue 2. Hope it's OK if we use it. It'll sure save us lots of research time. Will get back to you when I've checked the 1900. There will be a meeting of any and everyone concerned with the Hurst Teagarden Cemetery this Sunday at 2:pm at the Flippin City Hall. We desperately need folks who are interested in this very early pioneer cemetery to show up for this meeting. You need not be able to work, just able to help us get the support we need to bring this cemetery back among the active list. We need folks who will just say we are interested in keeping the multi-acre cemetery a cemetery and not a cow pasture. Sunday 17 September 2000, 2pm, Flippin City Hall. Don Ott

Velda Jo, I show Richard MAXEY b. 1840 in Knox Co. TN. and his wife was Elizabeth BATSON , they were married 29 Oct 1839 in Cannon Co. TN. I show their daughter Mary Adaline MAXEY as the first child born about 1840 in Cannon Co. TN. Did he have two wives and possibly I have all the kids mixed together? They were connected to the PATTERSON line from Jefferson Co TN and the LAFOLLETTE/LAFARLETTE line from VA>Sevier Co TN. All three families were in northern AL (Marshall/Jackson/Madison Co) by 1850. Unfortunately, Judy, there are no records in MCAR indicating where William Marion Brown and his wife Elvira Hearn (Dearman) Brown are buried. This family settled in Sugar Loaf Township. When Bull Shoals Lake was created on White River in 1952, much of this area went under water. The Corps of Engineers removed buried bodies from those cemeteries that would be flooded to other cemeteries. Many of these could not be identified because there were no headstones or the headstones had no writing on them. Linda Davenport has a list of these removals on the Marion Co page http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion. Daniel Richard Brown was sheriff of MCAR 1864-1866. Maybe someone else on the list can be more helpful to you.
