    1. MCAR 1900 census
    2. Mysty McPherson
    3. There is no 1904 federal census for Marion Co or any other place, Ann. Beginning with 1790, the US Congress directed a census (actually a Population Schedule) be taken every 10 years. A very good history of these census records, including just what's on each one, the actual dates they were taken, which are still extant, and lots more can be found at http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~haas/learningcenter.html It's a wonderful site for all sorts of information on land, courthouses, military, olden times, geneo research, time lines, and much, much more. For MCAR, published census records are available for 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880. We even have a reconstructed 1890 census for our county - a true rarity. Contact HGSMCA, PO box 761, Yellville AR 72687 or see our price list on the Marion Co web page. We have the 1900, 1910, and 1920 on microfilm at our Research Room at the Marion Co Library. We have one volunteer who will do lookups, but she's rather elderly and is always backed up with info requests so it could take a while. Contact Mary Birrer, HGSMCA, PO Box 761, Yellville AR 72687. As Don Ott told you, census microfilm can be rented at your local LDS Family History Center. They can also be rented from the National Archives http://www.nara.gov as well as from Heritage Quest http://www.heritagequest.com. Around here local libraries allow you to use their film readers to view your microfilm. You might also consider checking the Marion Co web page for lookup volunteers. 1. Hogan Cemetery
    2. Mysty McPherson
    3. Apparently you have been to the Marion Co web page, Ann. The information there on relocated cemeteries is about the most complete and concise you'll find anywhere. You might try the Corps of Engineers, whose office is in Mountain Home, Baxter Co AR, for more information than you obtained from the web page. Their phone is 870-431-4489. I doubt they have anything other than what's on the web page - all they were in charge of was moving the bodies to new locations when Bull Shoals Lake was created in the early 1950s, thus flooding cemeteries, churches, homes, whole towns. There is no government office or similar place in this county (or any other area county) from which you can order an official death or burial certificate. So far as I know, a personal visit to New Oakland Cemetery with good photographic equipment is the closest you'll get to documentation. Whether the headstones have names/dates is somewhat moot. Most "stones" around here were chunks of field stone, maybe with the initials or the name and possibly a date or two scratched on them. (These were moved by the Corps of Engineers *if* they existed). They definitely were *not* what we consider a grave stone today. Whatever form the original stones had, the elements have played havoc with all types. Similarly cattle, farmers with tractors and bush hogs, floods, land developers, and the like have all done their share of cemetery destruction and desecration. Again, a personal visit would be the best way to ascertain this. Maybe someone on this list lives near the New Oakland Cemetery and would be willing to check this out for you. How about it, list members? Can anyone help Ann? 3. The 1900 Census has not been transcribed, to my knowledge, and it is still on film. You can get that at your local Mormon Church lending library. They will have to order it, it costs about $4. You might get your local library to order it. 2. Mysty, do you have anything on Sarah Elizabeth Martin (may have gone by Elizabeth) who married William A Harmon 16 Apr 1887 both of Pleasant Valley, which was Boone Co then (I believe). William married my grandmother very soon after the death of Sarah in childbirth in abt 1900/1901. He had five children with Sarah by this time. I've seen Martins mentioned a bit lately so maybe some of them will recognize her name. Thanks Judy

    1. William Thomas Coats
    2. Mysty McPherson
    3. Sorry I can't help you with this, Nancy. Marion Co AR did not exist in 1825. Arkansas wasn't even a state yet - it was Arkansas Territory. The 1830 Izard Co census (from which Marion Co was formed) does not contain the surname Coats. Nor does the 1840 nor 1850 Marion Co. census. I find no reference in the Searcy Co. census records either. I've run across the surname Coots in early census records, but don't recall which county. Why not go to http://www.usgenweb.com, click on State Pages, click on the format you'd like, click on Arkansas, click on County Selection list, click on Izard Co or Lawrence Co. Maybe even Fulton Co. This will bring up the web pages for those counties. Maybe you'll have better luck in counties that were in existence in 1825. There just aren't any records here 'cuz we weren't here yet. 2. Wilma Norton
    3. Hi Mysty I found Levi Taylor's family on the 1900 Hampton Twp MCAR census and have answered my question to you. Just wanted to let you know so you wouldn't waste your time when you go to the library next time. I appreciate your offer to help tho'. By the way, you never explained the reference to "John Hobbs Adams bunch" -- I'm always interested in any Adams, especially if they connect up to my Younger family -- so, I'm still wondering who he is and what it was I sent that you'd like to use. 1. JOHNSON
    2. Just as a service to others on the Izard County List, I posted this a couple days ago. >From the Marion County history book in family write-up section, pp. 189-190: JOHNSON by Glenn Johnson Asbury and America Emeline Stone Johnson arrived in Marion County in 1874 from Tremont, Mississippi, and Hamilton, Alabama. They farmed the first year with and for Mr. George D. Burch, who had homesteaded the land south of the town of Flippin. The following year they bought the land southeast of the town where they remained until their death. They were good farmers with many of the old family traditions of living from the land and using the old ways of treating the illnesses with herbs and knowing how many sticks of wood was needed to heat the house through the winter of cook the food for the year. Their home soon became a gathering place for Sunday dinners and everyone was always welcome in their home. They were the parents of four children: Levi, Eugene, Nellie, and Louvera. Eugene was a farmer and schoolteacher, besides serving as a Justice of the Peace for many years, as well as Road Overseer. He was married to Minnie Bell Huddleston and their children were: Clemma, who married J. E. McCracken and they had one son, L. D., who is now with McDonnell-Douglas Company in Huntington Beach, California; Glenn, who married Bernice Adams, a teacher. Glenn became Postmaster of Flippin in 1941 and served until his retirement in 1972. He was also one of the founders of the new Citizens Bank of Flippin and is now Chairman of the Board. Glenn and Bernice have two children: Hal and Juanita (Mrs. L. G. McCracken). Raymond Johnson entered the U.S. Navy as an enlisted volunteer while in high school and was retired after 27 years of service as a Lieutenant Commander and settled in Fayetteville, Arkansas. He married Maude Berry of Flippin and they have a son, Eugene Dink who lives in Dallas, Texas; and a daughter, Zena Ray, who lives in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She is married to Charles Parrette and they have four children. Clyde Johnson married Katherine Osborn of Flippin. He worked for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad Company and died as a result of an accident while working as a brakeman in the switch yards in Springfield, Missouri. They have one son, Billy Clyde, who is living in Jefferson City, Missouri, and working for the Missouri Health Department. Levi, son of Asbury and America Emaline Johnson, married Eva Pangle and they lived on the farm east of Flippin adjoining his father's place. They had three children: (1) Reba, who married Allen Patrick, son of H. H. Patrick. They had six children. (2) A. G., who married Bonnie Jean Parnell, daughter of Clete and Stella Cornell Parnell. They had a daughter; and, (3) Jack, who married Mable Wooten, daughter of Thomas and Mae Hurst Wooten. They have four children. Nellie Johnson married Raleigh Matthews, who was a minister and schoolteacher. They moved to Kansas City, Kansas. Louvera, who married Charlie Brown, and both are deceased and left no children. * * * Perhaps census records will help to clarify whose children belong to who in the above information. DISCLAIMER: I have no known kinship to this family, and posted this hoping it would help someone else. Peggy in Tulsa Peggy King Truesdell e-mail: pjkingtru@aol.com

    3. Unfortunately, John, no county records of any sort exist for Marion Co before 1887. The courthouse burned to the ground in Aug 1887 and took ALL records with it. There will not be a marriage record for John Johnson in MCAR. The only John Johnson I find in the MCAR 1880 census that might fit, is John Johnson 23 farmer b MS parents b AL, married to Catherine ___ 20 wife b AR, parents b TN. There is no mention of how long they've been married. They are living next door to James Johnson 50 farmer b AL, parents b GA, married to Arvilla ___ 44 wife b AL, parents b GA, Dora D. Johnson 17 dau, b MS, parents b AL AL, Saponia $. 14 dau b MS, parents b MS. I'm pretty sure this is John's father.
