    1. Re: Freck
    2. Mysty McPherson
    3. Can't tell you a whole lot about the Freck Community of Marion Co. AR, Julie Ann. Currently, with all this ice-cube weather, it's iced in and no one is getting in or out much. Roads to and from are unpaved and some are pretty bad even in good weather. There was a post office there from 1906 to 1953. I'm of the impression, but could be wrong, that the name was chosen by the US Post Office Department in Washington DC. I've not run across the surname Freck in any of my local research so this is quite a surprise to me. It was located in Burnes' Store - which is what most of the locals folks called it. It was located in Section 19 of Township 17 North, Range 16 West. (If you'll go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion, you'll find a site that describes this type of land locating as well as a ca 1916 map of Marion Co.) I think Georgia Killebrew gkille@southshore.com can tell you lots more about it than I can. Her family has been in Marion Co for ages - and she lives near Freck. You might also contact Don Ott dott@centuryinter.net who can either tell you lots about it or point you to where you might find information. I'm sending this to the Marion Co email list in hopes someone there can help more than I. 1. Samuel TREAT
    2. Don Ott
    3. I expect the Samuel TREAT living with Acey BAKER in the 1880 Census that Mysty mentions in recent postings is: Samuel Andrew Jackson TREAT b. ca 1855, Marion County AR. His parents were John Berry TREAT Jr. b. ca 1820 IN, and Sarah Francis WOOD b. ca 1823, IN. Samuel first married Almanza MASSEY about 1880 in Cherokee Co, Kansas and they had Minnie and Oscar TREAT. He second married Erma Jane GOODALL on 19 Jan 1912 and they had Charley TREAT. They may have had other children but I do not have records on them. Several of the TREAT family on line may have more data on him. I have no idea why he was living with the BAKER family in 1880 but both of his parents were still living at the time of the Census. In the 1870 Census I believe the same person that he married was living with her step-father in Marion County, Flippin Barrens, listed as Almanda ROWLAND. She was also listed in the 1910 Miami Co. Kansas, Osawatomie City, 1st Ward, Kansas State Insane Asylum as Almanza ROWLAND.

    3. You will find a nice story about Freck AR on the Marion Co site (address below) see Myths & Legends - Dillard Settlement. I'm sorry I don't remember which date the story is in but it shouldn't take you long to find it. There is also information on the Cemeteries in Marion Co listed at the site. >From the main page select Cemeteries and see what you find. The most authoritative list of cemeteries and burials is a book by the Burns'. You can get a look-up from one of the volunteers - See Look-ups from the Main page. While you're at the look-up page ask someone to check the Marion Co Genealogy book for your folks. Tons of info in that. You might also run a search for your ancestors. I can't guarantee you that every page has been indexed by the search engine but most of them have. The only exception is the scanned pages of the voters lists. If you have any idea of when your folks were in Marion co you might want to take a look at the Mt. Echo abstracts and don't forget the Turnbo manuscripts. There's a lot of information on Marion Co people at the site. Good Luck on finding what you need. 2. Hi list - Thought I'd drop a line and add that most Californian's have been threatened with imminent "brown outs" that could hit without warning anytime in the very near future. Unfortunately, our problem statewide is not due to nature but due to lack of foresight regarding the governing and monitoring of our recently deregulated power industry. As we may not have much warning when the brown outs will hit, I wanted to let you know that may be a possibility for us in the future and responses out of CA could be sporadic. ~ gina ~ Visit my homepage at <A HREF="http://hometown.aol.com/ginaburningsky/myhomepage/business.html">BURNING SKY ENTERPRISES</A>

    3. "Genealogies of MCAR Families 1811-1900" has nothing on Elijah, son of John & Mary Matlock. It's probably the same family somewhere back in time, but we have nothing to tie them together. Looks to me as if your Matlocks are Carroll/Boone Co folks. The only Whites we have info on went from MCAR to Baxter Co when Baxter was formed in 1873. However, there is a White family in Boone Co. None of the three Taylor families we have contains the given name Robert. Again, there are Taylor families in Boone Co. Since most of the geographic locations you mention are in Boone Co AR, I'd suggest you contact the new Boone Co. Genealogical Society http://www.rootsweb.com/~arbcgs/boone_county_genealogical_soc.htm as well as contact their president, Dee Burr searcher@yournet.com. I'm sure they can be of much more help to you than I can since the records you apparently need are primarily in Boone Co. I'm going to forward this email to Dee so that she and her group will have the information in it to work from. Sorry we here in MCAR couldn't be of help.
