I am seeking information about the William Sanders and his wife Martha Jane who lived in Union Twp. Marion Co. in 1889. He is listed as being a blacksmith and they had a daughter Emaly V. Emily Viola is my great grandmother and was born in Mo. The funeral home where Emily's records are kept says that she was born in Texas Co. Mo. William Sanders was born in TN as was Martha Jane. Her last name was Winn/Wynn. If anyone has any knowledge about this family please contact me. Thanks, Sharon
This is a pretty new site, June, and may be "down" for additions/editing. I don't know. It's been working just fine since the brand spanking new Boone Co Genealogical Society announced it a couple-three months ago. Contact the society president, Dee Burr searcher@yournet.com to see if she's aware of this. I've missed the past two meetings of the society (blankety-blank ice-cube weather!) so may have not gotten an announcement. Sorry about this. And will see if I can track down the problem too. Tammy; think you are right, answers another question of the OK Nations. And I think some others of Catherine's family went to OK. Did a bit of surfing tonight (oops! this morning) and tripped over this site. A good bit of Ledbetter ancestry and kinfolks. Might be useful to some of you. http://worldconect.genealogy.rootsweb.com. I put in a search for Ledbetter, b TN, d MO (thinking of [William] Jones Ledbetter, of course). Have fun :-))))) Mysty shakerag@mtnhome.com

You'll find the MCAR 1880 online, Patricia, at http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion. Look under Transcribed Records. While you're there, it might be helpful to check out the information and maps which help explain the Townships. Scroll down to "Maps." You'll find that Franklin Township was created in the 1870s from part of Little North Fork Township. This indicates that James Ledbetter didn't actually move - his "address" just changed. You'll also find this area is just across White River from Missouri. Folks have flip-flopped back and forth between AR and MO forever. It's my guess you'll find Isaac Tillman Ledbetter somewhere in MO in 1880. Did you catch the email yesterday from Thelma Nation re Nations and Ledbetters? If not, let me know and I'll forward it to you. Thelma/Patricia/Mysty: In searching for information on my great-grandfather, James Ledbetter, I ran across a Ken Haughton on one of the message boards. He gave me the following information from a book he had just finished: James Beverly Ledbetter, son of William Jones Ledbetter and Catherine Nation, born about 1849 in Fentress Co., TN. He married first, Nancy whose surname is unknown. He married second Mrs. Mary Trimble, whose maiden name is also unknown. Children by Nancy: George Ledbetter b. c1873 Catherine Ledbetter b. c1875 Children by Mary: Fanney E. Ledbetter b. c1878 Stella Ledbetter b. July 1883 Ollie B. Ledbetter b. Mar. 1885 Julia Ledbetter b. July 1887, His references included: 1860 Census of Texas Co., MO, p. 1047: Jones Ledbetter, farmer, 36, b. TN; Catharine Ledbetter, 33, b. TN; Isaac L. Ledbetter, 15, b.TN; Margaret D. Ledbetter, 12, b. TN; James P. Ledbetter, 11, b. TN; George W. Ledbetter, 8, b. TN; Lucinda Ledbetter, 5, MO; Nancy E. Ledbetter, 2, MO; Viny A. Nashose, 17, b. TN. 1870 Census of Yellville, Marion Co., AR, p. 499A: James Ledbetter, Farm Labor, 21, b. TN; Nancy Ledbetter, 16, b. AR. My great-grandmother was Mary Ann King Trimble(not sure about the Trimble)Ledbetter. She was married to James Ledbetter by 1878. They are listed in the 1880 census of Marion County, AR (Franklin Township - P. 10A) as follows: James Ledbetter, Farmer, 40, living with wife Mary Ledbetter, 35, and son George Ledbetter, 7, daughter Catherine Ledbetter, 5, daughter Fanny E. Ledbetter,2, and step-daughter Martha Trimble, 7. According to the story my grandmother told, James Ledbetter (her father) deserted them when she was a young girl and moved to Oklahoma and raised another family. By the time the 1900 Census was taken, Mary and her 3 youngest daughters, Stella, Ollie and Julia (my grandmother) were living with Mary's eldest daughter Martha and husband John Smith in Gaither Township, Boone County, AR. I was just wondering if Thelma's (or anyone else's) information included anything on children of James. I have information on children by Mary Ann, but not much on children by his first wife or any wife after Mary Ann. Believe daughter Catherine went by the name of Lou/Luey and was married to Charles Sumner Merriman and ended up in Oklahoma. Maybe between all of us, we can figure this out! Thanks, Tammy Hamilton
Would someone be kind enough to look for Isaac Tillman Ledbetter in the 1880 Marion Co. AR census records.. Thanks a Million in advance, Patricia Schiro schiro@gte.net

Hi Mysty: My husband is a Nation descendant, his grt grandfather was a brother of Catherine. Catherine was the daughter of Isaac Nation and Margaret Tillman. I have traced both families back and have not found any Indian in either family. Isaac was the son of William and Jane Nation but I do not have the last name for Jane She may have been a Robins/Robbins. They went to TN in 1799 from NC. William's parents and grandparents, no Cherokee on either side. Margaret Tillman was a descendant of William Sharp of Sharp's Fort in TN. Her mother Catherine was a Graves from Germany, who's father was Johan Graff changed to John Graves. Just curious of how Catherine was Cherokee..........After 6 years of research on the Nation family, Catherine's ancestors, I have not found a trace of Cherokee.English, German and Scot. I will send Catherine and Jones Ledbetter's history. It may help some one. Catherine was born in Overton Co., TN 26 Sept 1824. She married Jones Ledbetter 20 Mar 1843, Overton Co. TN (Pension Papers). Jones (Jonas) was the son of Beverly Ledbetter and Nancy Robbins, All were living in Fen Co. TN in 1850. Children of Catherine and Jones: Isaac Tillman be. 1845 Fen Co. or Overton Co. Margaret Jane be. 1847 TN James Beverly be. 1849 TN George Washington be 18 Jul 1850 TN Lucinda born 1855 TN Nancy Elizabeth born 1858 Clear Springs, Texas Co., MO Fannie born 1861 Texas Co., MO Jones enlisted 4 Aug 1862 in Co. TO, 32nd Union, MO. and died at the Post Hospital at Rolla, Phelps Co., MO, 1 Nov 1862 Catherine married ______Tabor and had sons Henry and Jake. She must have named these after two of her brothers. Ledbetter's, and Henry Nations left Fen Co. after 1855, I have not been able to find Henry Nations but think he may have settled in Pulaski Co., Ark by 1870. He may have gone to Stoddard Co., MO where a sister Melamine and two brothers, William Jackson and Jacob settled in 1849. Catherine left MO and went to Marion Co., Ark about 1888 (Ledbetter Genealogy) She died 1912 while living with her daughter Fanny and is buried in Peel Cemetery.(?) Isaac Tillman married Nancy Friend, Margaret Jane married David M. Johnson, Nancy Elizabeth married Oliver Risley (Risleys were also in Overton Co., TN) George Washington married Harriet Morris, they both died 30 Nov 1888 in Clear Springs, Texas Co., MO. I have further information on dates and so on. In 1850, Fentress Co., TN, living with Catherine and Jones was Margaret Nations age 13 and Vina age 8. I believe these are the daughters of Henry Nation and his first wife who died in 1844 when Melvin's (husband) grandfather Henry Thomas was 6 weeks old. Henry remarried about 1848. I have nothing on the Catherine Tabor marriage. Hope this helps someone and have a lot of information on the Nations. Thanks Thelma Nation ----- Original Message ----- From: Mysty McPherson <shakerag@mtnhome.com> To: <ARMARION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 10, 2001 10:56 AM Subject: Re: JONES LEDBETTER & CATHERINE NATION-LEDBETTER > Here's the only mention I find of Jones & Catherine (Nation) Ledbetter in > MCAR records. > > "Marion Co.
