Rhio: As per your suggestion, my brick wall still remains my great great grandfather Pleasant Walker Bingham. I haven't put him on this list because he lived in Logan County for a while. If it is OK. Then I will get the dates when he lived there ect. Thanks, Colleen
Looking for information about the Thomas Stevens family that was in Marion County from ca 1845 and died there in ca 1852. His son, Henry, married Margaret Adams daughter of Matthew Adams and Priscilla Catherine Wolf 6-4-1845. Trying to find exact date of Thomas' death and place of burial. I believe Thomas' wife, Margaret Sellers Stevens also died in Marion County shortly after they arrived in the area. Their daughter Eliza Catherine had married Davis Hudspeth before they left TN and found after they arrived in Marion County that he already had a wife and children in TX. Family legend says there was court action on this. Was he related to the other Hudspeth's in Marion County? There was also a son, Foster Stevens, shown on the 1850 census. Haven't been able to find him after that unless he was the brother who went to TX with Henry after Thomas' death and his other name was William or Billie.
I am looking for information on Ledbetters, going back from Lottie Ledbetter Vest, b. 1888. Her father was George Washington Ledbetter and her mother was Harriett Morris Ledbetter. They both died in 1888, the year she was born. George Washington Ledbetter's father was Jones Ledbetter and his mother Catherine Nation Ledbetter. I think that Jones Ledbetter's father was Buckner with the wife of Tabitha. I am interested in this family going back. Lottie Ledbetter Vest was my paternal grandmother. Linda Vest-Marquart hmarquart@yahoo.com P.S. I am currently corresponding with others who have ancestors who were siblings of my George Washington Ledbetter. Tabitha Jones who married my Buckner Ledbetter was supposed to have been 1/2 Cherokee. I am interested in that Jones family. _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Being that this is a new year, a new century, and a new millenium, now might be a good time for all of us to post the families we are researching. How about those brick walls? How about those nagging questions we have been holding back? Surnames, spouses, dates, and a possible location will help all of us. Hopefully, we can help connect some of our families. We know they were all related to one another, don't we? <grin> For the benefit of NEW members to the list. Some might be confused with instructions on how to post to this list. Please, post all queries and information you have on your Marion Co., ancestors to the following address e-mail: ARMARION-L@rootsweb.com This address is for both "List" and "Digest" modes. Hope this helps some who haven't yet posted a message. FYI: We have 182 subscribers! Rhio listowner

Marget E. born 30 March 1891 and died 8 May 1977. They have a son, Orval Gene Rains born 25 March 1927 and died 20 April 1976. Orval is buried in the Welty Cemetery. I do know that Sam Rains, J. T., Sr. (Tom) and Margaret's son, who married Gertrude Stout Norman died in 1956 and is buried in Highland Cemetery in Okemah. I don't know if I can remember all of the Rains children but I will attempt to name them. Jack, Ethel, Orval, J. T., Jr., Bill, Sam and Iver are at least some of the kids. J. T. Jr., lives at Okemah and Jack lives in Oklahoma City. Ethel is married to Warren Baker. Bill lives in Mobeetie, Texas. Bill's grandson, Wade, is a deputy sheriff in Okemah. Gina, when James Johnston gets the web page about the North AR Ancestry Fair up and running, there'll be a list of places to stay in the area. Lots of folks make this almost an annual sabbatical. You wouldn't believe the states evidenced by vehicle license plates - OK, TX, CA, VA, NJ, PA, NC, SC, GA, TN, AL, WA, KY, and more. Some stay with kin, some bring motor homes, some stay at resorts. And when not at one or more of the Fair functions, you'll find them digging in courthouses, tramping thru cemeteries, surging around libraries, talking with anyone they can corner. It's one of the most amazing long weekends I've ever experienced. And *everyone* is having a blast. It's well worth the trip from wherever so mark you calendar for next year. It's always the first weekend in June. Thank you very much Rhio! I think I will definitely try to plan on going. Sounds like somewhere I might learn a lot. Appreciate your taking the time to explain. Connie Kays
Hi Connie, Seems like Mysty beat me to it. Actually, most of you could beat me to it as I am on the Digest list. It takes a bit longer to reach me than individual messages. The explanation came from Mysty, not me. Since our own Gen Soc. will be there, Mysty knows more about what happens in AR than I do. I'm up here in WA State. Thanks Mysty! Appreciate it. I hope those of you who do go, will share it with the rest of us.

Received word of this recently, and thought it might be of interest to members of this list. And Rhio says it's OK to post it. It's merely for your information so please don't clutter this list with a lot of commentary. If you want to chat about it, please do it off list. The General Assembly has a bill before it which would allow adoptees to view their original birth certificate at the age of 21. The bill is HB1057 and has been referred to the Public Health, Welfare, and Labor Committee. It is on the agenda of this committee to be heard again on Thursday (18 January 2001) at 10:00 a.m. If you are a resident of Arkansas and have any comments, pro or con, regarding this bill, please send a short email to the legislators listed below. Connie, not real sure about some of the other ancestor fairs around the country, but this North Arkansas Ancestor Fair is designed strictly to share. Individuals bring their family histories and share them, societies bring their source materials and share them, speakers explain the how-to's of research in North AR. Copy machines are set up so folks can take home copies of whatever they want. Individuals and societies as well as commercial vendors have all sorts of research materials for sale - census, marriages, cemeteries, county histories, Civil War lists, newspaper extracts, obits, tax lists, family histories, etc etc. You learn about the various societies - county, Civil War, Trail of Tears, genealogical, historical, family, etc. You learn about web pages. You meet the most extraordinary and diverse bunch of people you can imagine. And it's all free (just a small charge for lectures you'd like to hear). Depending on all sorts of vagaries like weather, there are usually 300-500 in attendance. Some of the societies I'm almost positive will be there are Searcy Co, Marion Co, Boone Co, Stone Co, Carroll Co, Newton Co, Baxter Co, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Trail of Tears, and bunches I can't think of off the top of my head. Absolutely nothing is structured about it except the times that speakers will be sharing their wisdom. (Guess that's why it's called a fair instead of a seminar <grin>) Folks come from all over the country - not just North AR - to share - to give as well as receive. Contacts for further research are boundless. You don't even have to leave to get lunch - food, coffee, snacks, soft drinks are all right there all day. Hope this gives you an idea of what this ancestor fair is all about. It's lots of fun, exhausting, and simply crammed with information. Wouldn't miss it for the world. So long as you're researching in the general area or north-central Arkansas, or if you just want to make contacts and learn more about how to research Civil War or courthouses or getting started or American Indians or whatever, this would definitely be of benefit to you.
