Barb: I forget to tell you that I live in Cerritos, just south of Los Angeles and have a daughter that lives in Los Angeles. And I agree they are not any fun for anyone. No disaster be it tornado, hurricane or earthquake are any fun. Colleen
I am not Rhio, but they said it was centered near Olympia and it actually started about 30 miles down in the center of the earth. According to the NBC newscasters there have been 16 injuries reported. From the looks of the pictures there is quite a bit of damage. Even the capitol dome was cracked. I also have friends up there and have been trying to contact them, but the lines are down. Will keep trying until I hopefully get through. Good luck on getting in touch with your family. Colleen
Rhio: You all have our prayers and understanding. I have been watching it on the TV all day and it is still on. They keep changing the magnitude of it. At first it was a 7.0 then a 6.8. So now I guess it was a 6.2 . That is bad enough. I can empathize with you as we live down here is Southern California. The thought occurred to me that it might just come on down the coast. Colleen
Family in Tacoma reported that there were now 4 dead and 22 injured. I hope all of you in those areas are safe. Our prayers are with you! Take care. I was just watching the news awhile ago and they said that the area was Seattle and it was felt as far south as Salt Lake City. I don't think there were any injurys. If there were they weren't reporting them at the time. Earthquake upgraded to 7.0. I knew it had to be larger than 6.2. I lived through the '71 earthquake in So. Calif. and that one was violent, lasting a minute. Actually threw my husband out of bed. The sound was horrific from that one. This one was not loud and lasted about 30 seconds. Starting to hear on the news of all the damage such as our capitol building in Olympia. Nerves still rattled. Waiting for aftershocks. All glass and china down on the floor. B)
Hi, We have just been through a 6.2 earthquake in the Pacific Northwest. It lasted a long time and I heard things falling around the house as it continued and I thought it would never stop. Amazingly, nothing that fell broke. I'm still shaken but wanted to let you know I'm okay and I don't think anyone was injured from this quake. Rhio
This URL was posted on another list. It's about the Earthquake in San Francisco in 1906. One of the items on the site is a list of names for the known dead in the earthquake. If you are missing someone around the 1906 time frame you might want to take a look. We often think of our folks as pretty much staying close to home but that's not true. People traveled "back then" just as much as they do today. http://www.sfmuseum.org/1906/06.html Linda lhaasdav@mindspring.com Home.page http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~haas Marion.Co.AR http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion List hostess for -h.a.a.s/l.e.w.a.l.l.e.n/w.a.s.h.i.n.g.t.o.n n.c Interested in Construction? The area is southwest of Seattle and a very deep earthquake. I have heard that my daugher is fine but the building in which she works has suffered structural damage. Her coworker left to check out her home and she said it looked like a war zone in some places. But still NO fatalities. Just thought you'd want to know. Rhio, I too, am from the Pacific NW and they are calling it a 7.0 and there is lots of damage downtown. The count is 25 so far injured. We can't get through on the phones but my son did finally get through to us. We were in an adjacent building to the Everett Clinic and I can tell you it rolled and rolled. When we got home all my pictures were crooked and one had fallen. My two, poor cats were very spooked!! When I drove downtown Everett about 20 minutes after the quake, everyone was on the sidewalks out of their buildings, hundreds of them. I cannot reach my daughter in downtown Seattle where she works...the lines are all tied up. Thanks for anyone who would like to say a prayer. For all others on the list looking for a particular surname, go to the following website and click on the first letter of that surname. http://lists.rootsweb.com/ For Newbies: There is so much help at the Rootsweb for beginning researchers. Check out http://www.rootsweb.com Also check out the US GenWeb Project. Go the the following page and click on the state you want to research in: http://www.usgenweb.org/statelinks.html >From the individual state sites, you can then click on the county you want to research in. Both of these sites are most popular in helping people get started in their on line family research. Good luck to all B)
To Carol Brown, To get into a Hogan community I suggest the following for you. Get on the Hogan mail list. You will find many Hogan researchers on this list. For questions about this list, contact the list administrator at HOGAN-admin@rootsweb.com. Subscribing. Manual instructions: to join HOGAN-L, send mail to HOGAN-L-request@rootsweb.com with the single word "subscribe" without the quotes, on the subject line and in the message body of the e-mail window. To join HOGAN-D, do the same thing with HOGAN-D-request@rootsweb.com. Subscribe to HOGAN-L Subscribe to HOGAN-D (digest) Unsubscribing. To leave HOGAN-L, send mail to HOGAN-L-request@rootsweb.com with the single word unsubscribe in the message subject and body. To leave HOGAN-D, do the same thing with HOGAN-D-request@rootsweb.com. Unsubscribe from HOGAN-L Unsubscribe from HOGAN-D (digest) To search the Hogan Archives, go to: http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl?list=HOGAN Post messages to the "D" list or "L" list with this one address: Hogan-L@rootsweb.com L stands for list and this list comes in individual e-mail messages. D stands for digest and these come bundled together. If you are using Netscape mail the Digest mode is great. IE makes the Digest mode cumbersome. Good Luck, Rhio listowner
Hi Carol, I'm sending you an FTM file attachment on HOGANs and other related families via your email addy. The list doesn't support attachments. The book will be $40. It will cover the movement of Hogans from Ireland, through the eastern U.S., up until they settled in KY and moved on to Marion Co AR to settle pre-1840. It even takes you into Kansas where some went to during the Civil War and in Oklahoma where another group left MCAR during the early 1900's. I hope it helps you in your research. Thanks! I'd definitely be interested in the book. How much is it? So glad for your response. I'm not sure if there was a Harris my husband's family line or not, but would love to hear from anyone who might tell me how to start my research or if anyone in Marion Co. does this type of work, or names of any other contacts with Hogan connections.
