Mysty: You said it much better than I did. Thank heavens for people like you and Rhio. Colleen
Rhio is our list owner and we all wanted to know if she came through the earthquake all right. At least I for one wanted to know. Colleen

Judy: If you have a cell phone, try to get through that way. Or if they have a computer try the e-mail. Our NBC station here if LA set up a way where you would e-mail the station and give them the phone number and they would relay it to some business and have your family member call you. They can call out, but no one can call in. Like I said earlier, I used the cell phone and got right through to my people in Seattle. Colleen
I haven't heard anything being mentioned about Puayullap (SP wrong I think). But I couldn't get through to my friends in Seattle, and then my husband said can't you use the cell phone. So, I tried it and got right through. Fortunately they lived in Renton which is a suburb of Seattle and had no damage to their home nor belongings. I think the worse of the damage was in Pioneer Square where all of the old buildings were and also some of the brick buildings. You might want to try your cell phone, if you can't get through the regular way. Good Luck, Colleen
Your absolutely right Mysty, the living relatives take first place. The dead ones will still be there waiting for us. Colleen, (my middle name by the way), I did make contact with my daughter yesterday and Pioneer Square is one to two blocks from her place of work. There is structural damage but she is at work today. Her normal 15-20 minute drive took 2 hours and 35 mins this morning due to closure of main thoroughfares for either damage or inspection for damage. Thank you for your concern. By the way - my aunt lives in Raymond which is closer to the Columbia River Gorge, and they felt the quake down there very strong ~ but no damage. ~gina~ Visit my homepage at http://hometown.aol.com/ginaburningsky/myhomepage/business.html <A HREF="http://burningskyenterprises.com/">Burningskyenterprises.com</A>
Hi Everyone - My cousin & her husband lives in Tacoma - right where the epicenter was. They are fine, I was able to get through about 1:30 this afternoon. Lots of shaken nerves, and they say the news is actually showing the worst of everything, and they really made it through pretty good considering the magnitude of the quake. For those of you who have been unable to get through to your families, good luck & keep trying. ~gina~ Visit my homepage at http://hometown.aol.com/ginaburningsky/myhomepage/business.html <A HREF="http://burningskyenterprises.com/">Burningskyenterprises.com</A>
Hello everyone, This day is over and we never felt any aftershocks here in Gig Harbor. I'm just across the Narrows Bridge (formerly Galloping Gertie) from Tacoma. I'm not terribly far from Puyallup, 12/15 mi., Fort Lewis, 15 mi., about 25 miles north of Olympia and about 20 miles from the Nisqually Basin which is where the epicenter of the Pac. NW quake was. I heard on the news tonight that only one person died of a heartattack and they are blaming it on the quake. This is not the worst quake I have been in. The '71 quake in the San Fernando Valley, So., Cal. was the most violent I have ever experienced and lasted a "never ending" minute and the aftershocks went on for 2 years. The size of the quake, today, had numbers all over the place. After all the data was in from around the world it settled at 6.8. It's a ride I would rather not have taken. The worst of everything is what is being shown on TV but our little town on Gig Harbor looked just as it has always looked. No fallen bricks or visible damage. Greg and I took a late afternoon drive into town and everyone was marketing and shopping as they always do as if nothing had happened. I never did hear any news about Tacoma or Puyallup. Puyallup is about 12 miles east of us as the crow flies. Downtown Tacoma is almost all brick. The damage there must have been terrific. Well signing off with news from "almost" ground zero. Thanks for the prayers and thoughts from many of you. There are few who have been injured considering the size of this quake and those people need our continuing prayers. You are all great and it was so nice to hear from so many of you. If anyone wants to talk about this with me please mail me off list. Note: I'm late in getting all your messages because I'm on the Digest list. This list waits till it has a certain number of bytes before it automatically sends it out. If you ever have questions of me, please write me personally at: rhioreh@mail.com Now, good friends, back to genealogy. Rhio listowner
Judy, excuse me but how are things in and around Everett. My husbands brother and his family live outside of Everett on an Island. Another brother in Marysville and his family. My cousin lives in Tacoma - at the epicenter of the earthquake. She said there are 5 critically injured, all expected to survive. There are several roads out in the area and a couple of exits off I-5 are closed. Starbucks headquarters received alot of damage, as did alot of the older buildings in downtown Seattle, which seems to have been it the hardest. ~gina~ Visit my homepage at http://hometown.aol.com/ginaburningsky/myhomepage/business.html <A HREF="http://burningskyenterprises.com/">Burningskyenterprises.com</A>
they are saying no calls but emergency...so you need to stay off line so they can call you and let you know they are ok....And if they have damage they are busy getting it together. And you can check with your local Red Cross and have them check for you. God Bless and our prayer are with all the families there. -----Original Message----- From: Connie Schofield <kavolscof@junct.com> To: ARMARION-L@rootsweb.com <ARMARION-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, February 28, 2001 7:14 PM Subject: Re: Earthquake - it is 6:38 CA time >Anyone know about Puyallup? I live in CA and I work at a newspaper....I look at that website to get updated news. You should go to local web sites for updates....there are 29 injured and 4 of those critically....no one has died. They are lucky to have only had 1 aftershock. Here when we have a 6.3 we have immediate aftershocks, one after the other and it is hard to feel it stop. We shake ever little bit here, just about 1.3 or so and up but we don't even feel it. Not very stable living here. I am from TX originally. Spent about 38 years here tho. Just pray for those families and business that have lost a lot of their belongings there.
