Has anyone used Ancestry.com today? I can't get it to pull up any of the images. Also, did anyone else download the new image scanner? Thanks, Barb Whisenant
I think that if you look on the hoax web page that you will fint that 'Family Pictures' is a hoax. ----- Original Message ----- From: <ARMARION-D-request@rootsweb.com> To: <ARMARION-D@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 02, 2001 10:00 PM Subject: ARMARION-D Digest V01 #82
Colleen, check the URL below. You'll find that "Family Pictures" is a hoax. Even so, don't let your guard down. Just bookmark this URL for future reference. Robert, please check the URL below. You will find that "Family Pictures" is a hoax. Even so, be sure your anti-virus scan is always active and ready to advise you of potential virus infections. http://www.mcafeeb2b.com/naicommon/avert/default.asp Mysty shakerag@mtnhome.com ********************************************* ----- Original Message ----- From: Robert Estes <bwoodshop@alltel.net> To: <ARMARION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 02, 2001 7:38 PM Subject: ANOTHER VIRUS > I have just received an e-mail stating that there is another virus > floating around. Thanks for warning us Robert: Colleen
I have just received an e-mail stating that there is another virus floating around. It is called FAMILYPICTURES. Do not open it it will delete all your .dll files and your computer will not boot up. Robert
Thanks Rhio: I was woried that you might have got the virus. So glad you didn't. Have a good trip and let us know when you get back. Colleen
Believe me, Colleen, your current "headache" is less than nothing compared to what it would be like if you contracted Badtrans. Nearly 36 hours to get rid of the !@#$%^& thing while deleting *twice* every email that came in (opened or unopened) and every outgoing email created by the virus at the same time - there were hundreds of them <groan>. And, just for you information, *apparently* opening the attachment isn't the only way to get this virus. I simply do not do attachments so I simply ignored two that carried the virus and deleted them. I got it anyway. And Kathy Hudson apparently contracted it from an unopened email in her trash bin. At the time the AFHA email list took a beating (as did most of the UK), none of the virus software programs had the DAT files for it posted so their virus scans didn't recognize it. Two days later, they were up. Meantime, all h___ broke loose!!! The filter systems Rootsweb and AOL etc use managed to keep it out. Just be thankful for the merely inconvenient headache you have <BG>. It's *far* better than the alternative :-))))) Mysty shakerag@mtnhome.com ********************************************* ----- Original Message ----- From: <Vansrib@aol.com> To: <ARMARION-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, May 02, 2001 6:14 AM Subject: Re: to cunningham1234 > Thanks Linda: > > I think I have McAffee and another one which I can't remember right now off > the top of my head. Sorry everyone, A bunch of things have been happening in my family We're also leaving town on Sat. and trying to get everything taken care of before we leave especially my online editing job. I have been very busy - not much time the past two days. I have unsubbed cunningham1234@email.msn.com. I have also put this address in the reject list. I am doing this for a while at least while I'm gone. So cunningham can't resubscribe. I'm sending my password to Linda Dav so she can take care of things while we're gone. Hope this helps everyone. Rhio
Thanks Linda: I think I have McAffee and another one which I can't remember right now off the top of my head. But the newer one is supposed to automatically update itself. Apparently it came in over an attachment and my virus protecter wouldn't allow me to open the attachment. This also happened to my sister and it is a big headache. Thanks again Linda Colleen
Colleen: I received an e-mail from "Cunningham1234" and the message body was a message I posted ONLY to the Marion co list. So whoever the person is that is infected is on the Marion Co list. I don't intend to start a discussion on viruses. There is a wonderful e-mail list for just that purpose - but folks you really need to get a good virus program and KEEP IT UPDATED weekly. I know a lot of people swear by McAfee's on-line clinic, but remember it only works when you are on-line and no matter what virus program you like and use be sure to have it set to scan your e-mail at download. If any of you want to know the grief you go thru to get your system cleaned up write a private e-mail to Mysty and she'll give you an ear full. And Rhio has problems with her ISP bouncing her mail and has signed up for a mail box elsewhere. She's also working a lot of hours. I don't think she's been slammed with a virus. Mysty: As you probably read, my virus detector stopped me from opening the attachment, so I just deleted it. Then he tried again and I recognized the name so just deleted that also. Apparently I am OK so far. Thanks for letting us know. Colleen Rhio may have gotten the virus and is trying to get back on line.
Told Rhio about this over the weekend. Haven't heard from her nor seen any postings from her to ARMARION about it. Wish she'd warn the list - another week like the Badtrans invasion of AFHA I don't need <groan> nor does anyone else!!! Linda: Apparently my virus protector caught it and wouldn't let me open up the attachment, so I just deleted it. I can't tell that I have lost anything at all. After I told everyone about the infected attachment including this Cunningham 1234 he tried to send it out again. But I recognized it this time, and deleted it before I tried to open it up. I hope no one else got caught by it. Thanks, Colleen
You have the badtran virus. Sorry to be the bearer of sad tidings! Just to jump in here... I live on a street named TURLEY that is named after the family that owned the property where we reside. It's in a little community outside of Austin, Travis Co. TX. This family is buried up the street in the Live Oak Cemetery. If anyone is ever looking for this family, let me know and I'll go get the tombstone info. Joyce M. Last week we had the pleasure of visiting the Bruno Cemetary where my relatives: Joseph G. McEntire, Champion and Sarah McEntire are buried. It is a wonderful cemetary and so well maintained. I would like to write a note of appreciation to those who maintain it. Would you be able to send me the address of those responsible? Also do you know what the small clay stones represent that are placed in a seemingly even spaced distance in several places??? Thanks again for the great Marion Co. site and the "100 yrs.Ago" article was very interesting. Mary Hamlin
