Mysty: Thanks so much again for the info. Colleen
Mysty: Susan was telling about records of people in Marion County by Lester and Marian Burns for sale. Is this what they call the Blue Book. I would like to have the address of where to write to get one, if it is still in print. She said you would know the address and the cost of the book including postage ect. Thanks again, Colleen
There are several books for sale on Marion Co, Colleen. I think the one Susan refers to is "Early Days of Marion Co" by Marian and Lester Burnes which sells for $25 and is hardbound. It's not actual *records* of MCAR people so much as it is stories about them, although there are lots of dates and relationships. Marian is now in her 95th year so you know she had access to information from before the turn of the century that hadn't been distorted too badly over time. Big Blue is the nickname for "Genealogies of Marion Co Families 1811-1900" by Mysty McPherson and Vicki Roberts. This *is* records of the people of MCAR and has *no* stories about them. It's hardbound, covers 400 individual families, and sells for $60. If you'll go to the Marion Co web page http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion, you'll find information on many books about Marion Co that are for sale - including prices and where to order them. The newest one, "Gleanings of Pioneer History" by W R Jones (owner/editor of The Mountain Echo for many, many years), isn't on this list yet. It's similar to Marian's "Early Days" in that it's mostly stories which often include dates and relationships. It's softbound, sells for $5, and can be ordered from HGSMCA. Shipping costs are included in the prices, by the way. This was sent to me by Rootsweb and I'm passing it along to all here on this list. Note the date. I received this tonight at 9:45 p.m., so it's a day late. Hope it's not a dollar short. (Thursday June 7, 2001) for maintenance add adding more disk space to it. I'll be doing more maintenance during the next few days. It does take quite awhile to make sure your accounts are up to date and working on the new disk. It has become just so wildly popular that we are running out of drive space! 8*) Which is not a bad thing. So if you experience "connection refused" when trying to FTP or HTTP to the server you know the reason. I should appologize in advance for any inconvience this may cause. But it will be back up with much more disk space then before! Mysty: This bit of information is not correct. My grandfather Mike didn't have 2 wives. This bothered me because I knew my great grandmother and my uncle knew both of them as he was some older that I was. So I sent and got their death certificates. I also wrote to Bob Derryberry so he could correct it on his 8 generations of Yocham's that was one time on the internet. There is another Mike Yocham that was married to a Samatha Petty, that I saw on the census, but his father was Hemly Yocham. My grandfather Mike died in 1927 in Inola Oklahoma and Nancy Jane Bevins Yocham died in 1940 also in Inola. They both lived with their Son Almous and his wife Susie (I am not sure of her maiden name). The information that I put out on the Marion county web page under Obits is correct and was taken off the death certificates. I hope this helps. Colleen
Colleen, this may be of some help. It's from "Genealogies of Marion Co Families 1811-1900." MICHAEL DeKALB "Mike" YOCHAM b AR March 1847 (g.s. 17 Dec 1846) d 30 Sep 1920 bu Cow Creek Cemetery m/1 NANCY J. ___ b MO Dec 1850; m/2 SAMANTHA JANE PETTY bu Baxter Co. AR. In 1900 William T. Yocham b AR March 1850 was living with them in North Fork Township. Served in Co. C of Elliot's AR Cavalry and applied for a pension 1906. It's my guess they didn't go to OK until after he applied for his pension in 1906 because the record of this is in "Arkansas Pension Applications" by Desmond Walls Allen. Susan: I was just wondering, is there any way that you could check to see when my great grandparents moved from Ark to Okla? There names are: Michael DeKalb Yocham (Son of Asa Yocham and Elizabeth Dennison Yocham) and Nancy Jane Bevins. I would sure appreciate any information that you are able to find. But I don't want you to go to a lot of work. OK. Thanks, Colleen

Hi: Thanks for the offer to help and also for the Ar. Archives ect. url address I logged on and it looks like it might be just what I need. I will be using it from time to time as that is where most of my family came from via Ar. from North Carolina and then to Ok. Also I have used the Marion County web site a lot. This has been a hectic day today, but will try to get something put together for you to look up hopefully by tomorrow. Colleen
Location: Worsbrough, England A lot of information is held in the Barnsley Family History Society. Here is a link: <A HREF="http://www.barnsleyfhs.freeserve.co.uk/swaithe1.htm">Swaithe Main Colliery Disaster - Worsbrough 1875</A>
As an antique dealer, I run across some unusual items. I have a plate which was hand transferred in England in 1875 to commerate the coal mine explosion of the Swaithe Main Colliery. Several names are listed on the plate. I know these are probably not located in Marion County, but since many fathers, sons, and grandsons died in this explosion, it might shed some light on where they went. Hope this helps someone. If you need more info, contact me at rpsodapop@aol.com Reta In the midst of Life - We are in Death - & stand in joepardy every hour. In memoriam - The Swaithe Main Colliery Explosion - December 6th, 1875. The following names appear on the plate. The items in parenthesis is how the name appears on the list I obtained of those who died. A. Crackles, H. B. Akers, W Bray, J Brown, T Foster, A Dunk, H Marsden, J Partlett (Partlet), T Markey, T Lund, W. Whitham, A Semley, J Bailey, J Wood, W Nettleship, C Taylor, S Green, S. There are 146 who died and only 125 were listed so this is probably those who died from injuries from the explosion.<p> N Lockwood, WC Kendal, W Green, T Coxon, T Dover, J Green, C Hall, J Muldoon, R McNaught, T W Senior, J Winder, W Tyers, T Scholey, J M Robinson. The plate is fired pottery and I was told so many families were left without a man to provide for the families that the local religious order (probably catholic) printed two commemerative plates and the proceeds went to the families who needed help. I only had one plate. My family was in Boone and Marion County in 1840s so it didn't help me, but it might help you. Let me know if I can help. Reta DeShields Parton rpsodapop@aol.com

Hi, ordered Don's new book "Gleanings of Pioneer History" and my order was returned. I mailed it to: HGSMCA P O Box 716 Yellville, AR 72687 Is this the correct address? It came back with WRONG ADDRESS written on the envelope and ATTEMPTED - NOT KNOWN checked on a yellow sticker. I am interested. Reta
Reta, the address is slightly wrong. Usually the PO people are real helpful, but every so often the postmistress gets into an anti-everything snit and becomes "rude, crude, and unattractive" (as we used to say in highschool) as well as anything but helpful <grrrr>. You'd think she was running the New York City main PO instead of this dinky rural everyone-knows-everyone-else PO out here. Karen: I just found your letter again. I do want to thank you for the web page. As you will read on the previous letter that I called you Judy, but I did get on it and will take advantage of it. Thank you so very much. Everyone on this List has been so very helpful. Thanks to everyone. Colleen
Thanks Howard for helping me to have patience to wait. We all need a little encouragement from time to time. Thanks again. Colleen
This is in reply to I think it was Judy that sent me the look up Web Page for California. The reason why I don't have her letter to respond to is that when I clicked in the web page address her letter went poof. So anyway I hope I am writing to to thank the right person. If this isn't the right person, I hope someone will correct me and point me to the right person. I do appreciate the web page information and got onto the page right away. I am anxious to have time to explore it. Thanks again for the help. Colleen
Susan: What is the latest that you would need the information for you to look up? It may take me a day or so to decide which ones I would like to have researched. Thanks again.
Judy: Thanks for the info. I guess we are living in such a fast paced generation and if most places are as understaffed as where my daughter works then we can understand why there are these problems that do sometimes creep in with the best of businesses. Thanks again, Colleen
