Wow that is one of those offers I can't resist! Do you happen to have a Hawkins on that list? My Great Grandfather's name was James C. Hawkins and he most likely was not there but I thought I might try to find his father who's name is still unknown to me. He said he was a quarter Indian and adopted. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much, Bren

Don: How soon will you be ready for look-ups. And how many look ups to a person. I have a feeling you are going to be inundated with request. All of my ancestors came through Ark. I don't know if it was the Benge Trail or not. Let me know when you are available for looks, I have a couple of names that I would like checked out. Thanks for the info. Colleen

Susan, Thanks, I would love to have the photos and I would be happy to reimburse you for the costs. Charlene
Charlene, Glad I could help. If you need a photo of the stones let me know. I will be going up that way next weekend to visit my folks. I've been to the Fairview cemetery many times -- some of my relations are there. Susan
Susan, Thanks, I think this is the one I was looking for. I know the son, Troy was their son, but I thot Uncle Jim died before 1955. He was my dad's uncle. I will have to check that further. Charlene
Hi Charlene, In the Cemeteries of Marion Co, I find three Swans in the Fairview Cemetery. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. James M (1877 - 1955) Mettie W. (1881 - 1944) Troy s/o James (13 Jan 1918 - 4 Dec 1920) Sincerely, Susan

In "Marion Co AR 1890" by Helen McMindes (the reconstructed 1890 census) I find a John Van Johnson b MS ca 1849 in Franklin Township married to Tabitha b MS ca 1848. They have a son John K born MS ca 1875. In "Marriage Records of Marion Co 1887-1905" by Marian Burnes & Vicki Roberts I find J V Johnson aged 29 of Oakland m MCAR 8 Dec 1894 Matilda Helms aged 19 of Oakland. In "Marriage Records of Marion Co 1906-1917" by Marian Burnes & Vicki Roberts I find J V Johnson aged 41 of Peel m MCAR 22 Dec 1907 Mary A Walker aged 25 of Peel. In none of these sources nor in "Genealogies of Marion Co Families 1811-1900" do I find mention of an Ellie Johnson nor a Lydia Yocham. Don, I'm sure the current mayor is very helpful but when I was up in Flippin (in April) my dad contacted Mr. Bob Marberry. He oversees the cemetery stuff. Mr. Marberry is the one who came out to the cemetery with us to make sure we had the right plot to bury my stepsister (my dad's oldest daughter). My dad was born and raised in Flippin and knows most of the people in Flippin. Susan

You need not look for Mr. Marberry at Flippin city hall, he has not been mayor for several years. Mary Jane (Johnson) Irwin is now the mayor and is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Linda: Thanks so much for the information and bit of advise and help. When I got my e-mail notifying me of the merger, my heart just sunk. I love Roots web, but am not fond of Ancestry.com. It is much harder to manuever than Roots Web. But like everything else, in order to use it we must accept it. I haven't tried it yet. I have been waiting to let the merger take place first. And hopefully get the bugs worked out. Again thanks to you and glad you are back. Colleen Just had some friends move to Claremore. Tried to tell them as much as I could about the area, but it is something they will have to experience.

Good Morning Everyone. Just a bit of news - well perhaps to some of you it is old news. If you visit a lot of the USGenWeb Sites or Rootsweb's home page you have probably seen the query boards (the neat looking puzzle pieces that say - Query, Bible Records, Obits, etc.) and I'm sure many of you have posted Queries on these Boards. As of yesterday Rootsweb's Query Boards were merged into Ancestry.com's Boards. The merger of these two sets of Boards is not going smoothly. To access these message boards you must now have an ancestry.com password. The Boards are still free and if they ever get the bugs worked out it might turn out to be a good thing. But many people are upset that the information they posted on these Boards is now in the hands of Ancestry.com. Especially many of the USGenWeb web managers. The only reason I'm telling you this is (1) so that you won't be surprised when you encounter this change and (2) to assure you that any queries, marriages, obits, etc that you have submitted to the Marion Co site are not involved in this transfer/merger. I have always maintained your submissions (queries, marriages, etc) myself using SurName Helper and kept the information on the Marion Co site. Anyone who visits the Marion Co pages will have free access just like always. Definitely *not* off subject, Wakley :-))) Memories like these are wonderful for everyone to hear about. Actually, this reminded of similar occasions at my grandfathers' store when I was around 6 (mid-30s, though). Mothers did tend to get upset over their daughters pumping that "smelly, old gas," didn't they <grin>. And coming home all dusty and grubby and reeking of skunk cabbage and usually hauling some sort of sun bleached bones. Oh, my, the memories <BBBG> Thanks, Wakley.
