My father in law was raised near Dugger's Mill. He says their are two Duggers Mills. One was on Marshall Branch and the other was on a creek near Western Grove. I have the original Homestead Certificate but it only mentions Harrison. My father in law says the old homestead was in Searcy County. He also said the other Dugger's Mill was on the branch below their house. I am trying to research the mill as well as the Dugger family. Can you direct me? Thanks Gary

    3. Dan, I'm afraid I don't have all the answers you requested, but I've found a few tidbits that might be helpful. The surname Chaffin does not appear in the 1850 Marion Co Federal census. 1860 Marion Co Federal census for Sugar Loaf Township. # 970 Kinsey Chaffin 30 b TN. Sophia 30 b TN. Haywood 6 b AR. My suggestion for further information on this family would be to go to county web pages and census records in Missouri. Because at least two of the children of Kinsey and Sophia married women born in MO would indicate some sort of tie with that state - probably escape from the Civil War horrors around here. I'd begin with the border counties that existed in 1860 and 1870 (Ozark & Taney) and move north into Greene Co. You might also look into Carroll Co records before 1869 and Boone Co AR aft 1869 (that's when Boone was created out of Carroll and a tiny strip of Marion). Both have web pages tht are linked to the Marion Co web page. The records for Marion Co prior to Aug 1887 were burned in the courthouse fire of that date. Every shred of paper was burned - totally. Federal records (US census, land, etc) and a few State records are all that remain to research. The writings of S C Turnbo, Ingenthron, Jeffreys, and Schoolcraft as well as the earliest issues of the Mountain Echo (began printing April 1886) are the closest we have to historical and genealogical facts before 1887. Sorry I couldn't come up with anything else. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask away. Guarantee nothing, but I'll do my best. 3. Don I just (9:14 pm) got into Conway and am exhausted. Consequently, I've changed my plans to spend Saturday in the Little Rock Library instead of Yellville. Another fsctor is thst Mysty McPherson has done some research for me in the Marion Co library. There is stillmuch to do, but I am hoping that Wanda can do some work there and I will do what I can in Little Rock. Many thanks for the help. I am also interested in your Cox connection. Janie Bolden was Janie (Cox) Bolden. She and Jerry came here abt 1886 along with Janie's parents Reuben and Martha Cox and some of their (grown) children. I have much on this Cox line back to colonial times if there is a link to your Coxes. Best Regards, Dennis

    3. Got a call from Dennis who is on his way to Arkansas to try to find something out about his family. He will be at the Marion Co. Library on Saturday morning to try to find something. He was in Wichita this evening (Thursday) on the way. If anyone has any data on this family I know he would appreciate if you leave it at the library. I did not locate them in the BB. They were born about 1843, I believe he said they came here from Orange Co. IN and they had children married in MC in 1886/87/88. He was hoping to find some land records, sale rather than purchase, I told him he might locate some tax records. Don

    3. Hello again, I guess the nasty posting didn't make it to the list. I have just sounded a huge sigh of relief. WHEW! There was an unsightly posting to the list and I guess Rootsweb DID catch it but it bounced back to me and thankfully I'm the only one that got it. Several have posted to me asking what it was. LOL Wouldn't you like to know? Or, maybe the better question is "Can't you guess?". LOL I'm just grateful it didn't get through. Sorry to stir up this hornet's nest. B)

I have sent the posting and all it's headings to Rootsweb so they can trace it and hopefully they won't get through next time. But then there are thousands of sites that will start doing this, now. It makes me sick and I'm &#%$ angry about it. Sincerely, Rhio Gillis listowner

    3. I received this news and thought some of you might be interested if you are doing any Oregon research. Many people from our county went west and settled in the Pacific Northwest. Rhio listowner ====================== Marion County List Administrator http://www.historicaloregon.org/ This is a new site that has been started by a group called Historical Oregon Information Services. It is a non-profit group to help individuals and groups access information about Oregon and it's history. Our site includes free services such as "look-ups" on Oregon, newsletter and a guest book. We also have books at low prices covering Oregon cemeteries, Oregon towns and World War II. At Historical Oregon Information Services we hope that this may be of some use to members of your group. Our "Look-Ups" on Oregon page covers towns, rail stops, ferries, stage stops, hard rock mines and schools as well as other types of places in the state of Oregon. In the future we will have cemeteries also listed. In most cases we have included any of the above listed items that pertain to the location name. This, however, is an ongoing project and updating our files is being done constantly. Under the name of the location, in most cases, we have the county in which it is located, Post office, Rail Road, location and any pertinent information regarding the location name. Our newsletter is sent out bi-weekly and has information pertaining to Oregon and its history. In the newsletter we cover such things such as name changes, multiple places with the same name, postal changes, new links, information about a place and other pertinent information about groups and their activities. We have link pages on genealogy and Oregon history. These links are listed in alphabetical order under appropriate headings. There are pages for genealogy and Oregon history with more headings to come in the future. At Historical Oregon Information Services we would also like to include any information regarding web pages, meetings and e-mail services pertaining to your group. We would be happy to include any of this information in our newsletter and or link pages for anyone that is interested. Thank you for your valuable time. We hope that this site can be of some benefit to you and or your group members in the event that any questions about Oregon arise. We hope to hear from you or anyone in your group, if you have any need for information on Oregon, in the future. Thanks again.
