    3. Hello, I read my mom, Frankie Keeter Harris, the query about the "blind piano teacher" and Mr. Ott's response and she said yes, and she remembered that they called her "Miss Don". I also wanted to say that I have enjoyed all the information that has been shared by this listserv. Thanks for all the hard work that you all do. Lisa Harris Hebert

    1. Good explanation about the new virus
    2. Linda Haas Davenport
    3. Morning Folks: I received an e-mail this morning telling me that the person had received an e-mail with the new virus from me. Well, I get them from "myself" off and on also. Right after that message was the latest copy of RootsWeb Review with information about the virus that you might find interesting since it's an excellent recap of the problem and includes some good links ************* 2c. KLEZ VIRUS FOOLS AND ENTICES. Genealogists are not the only ones being fooled by this relentless worm, which spoofs (forges) the "From" address. Even the U.S. State Department's e-mail identity was forged by it recently as Klez sent itself to law enforcement and media outlets across the country. Your editor and the RootsWeb HelpDesk have received hundreds of messages lately from researchers fearful that RootsWeb is sending out these worm- infested attachments. Relax. The virus is not coming from RootsWeb or via any RootsWeb mailing list (which do not allow attachments anyway). It is being sent to you privately by the infected computer (often without the owner's knowledge), with a forged "From" e-mail address and with all sorts of subjects lines, which Klez also steals. There are several ways Klez can obtain your e-mail address: --It may be in the sender's address book. --The infected computer may find an unread message from you in someone's inbox. --It may appear on a webpage that is cached on the infected computer. --It may appear in an old e-mail message that is stored on the infected computer. Depending on where Klez finds your e-mail address, it may use the subject line or copy part of a post in an attempt to appear to be a legitimate message. There is nothing your editor, the HelpDesk or anyone at RootsWeb can do to stop this. This mail does not originate with, or pass through, the RootsWeb mail servers. Your best defense is to not open any attachments you receive via e- mail, regardless of who the "From" person appears to be (use the real e-mail address of your friend or family member to inquire if they have sent you something with an attachment); keep your AntiVirus (AV) software up-to-date and use it, and set your AV program to scan all incoming e-mail or if the option is available, not to download infected mail from the server. Read more about Klez and the problems it is causing in an article by Michelle Delio in Wired News, currently available at: http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,1282,52765,00.html Reliable information about computer viruses can be found at: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/vinfodb.html http://dispatch.mcafee.com/virus_tips.asp?cid=1593 For a free online virus scan: http://housecall.antivirus.com/pc_housecall/ For free antivirus protection: http://www.grisoft.com/html/us_index.htm Linda homepage: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~haas MarionCoAR: http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion/ TulsaCoOK: http://www.rootsweb.com/~oktulsa2 MuskogeeCoOk: http://www.rootsweb.com/~okmuskog SurnameLists: H.A.A.S/H.A.S.S. 3. Well when you get to be old enough to remember the birth date of all the rocks in Marion County, that is when they start asking you all the crazy questions. "A Blind Piano Teacher" think about that for awhile, If she was reading braille music sheets what did she play the keys with? Guess she must have taught playing by ear? The name of the lady who used to take kids home from the Flippin school, which did not have a piano, and teach them piano was "Aunt" Donna (Keeter) Phillips. She was the wife of Ned Phillips. I have also heard her name as "Dawn" sorry I don't know for sure what is correct, I believe it was Donna. She was the daughter of James M. "Slippery Jim" Keeter and Theodosia Nanny. Mr. Keeter was elected Marion county sheriff in 1900. Her son, M. E. "Ned" Phillips . died in 1999 but his wife "Gertie" Gertrude (Hurst) Phillips still lives in Flippin. Gerties phone number is 870-453-8325. And by the way she was not completely blind she could get around, with caution, but as I recall I never saw her with a cane. She was a favorite to play at parties, meetings and churches etc. Her complete family history is in the currently for sale "Genealogies of Marion County Families 1811-1900" That can be ordered from the excellent Marion County Web Page. <http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion/> Hope a copy of this new book will be made available to the Marion County Library when published. 1. Flippin/Goodman
    2. Mysty McPherson
    3. Patti, I can't guarantee that the wife of George W Goodman was Elizabeth Flippin. I would guess not because the 1850 census says she was born in Ohio and because there are apparently no references to such a union in the Flippin family - at least none that any researcher around here has come across. The Historic Genealogical Society of Marion Co AR (HGSMCA for short) is compiling a second volume of Marion Co families and the Goodman family will be in this one. Here's what I can tell you about George W Goodman based on the research done for this book. George is found in the MCAR 1840 census in White River Township b 1835-1840 in the household of Jesse Goodman, as are his parents Joseph L and Mary Goodman. George is found in the MCAR 1850 census in Buffalo Fork Township aged 12 living with Joseph L and Mary Goodman. George is found in the Baxter Co 1880 census in Big Flat Township aged 42 with his wife E[lizabeth] D b OH 1833, daughter Albina b AR 1867, and son Henry Pate b AR 1872. George is found in "Early Baxter Co Marriage Records 1873-1892" marrying there 3 May 1888 Lorena Brown. We've not located George in the 1860 and 1870 census records yet. Most of the Goodman family and some of the Flippins went to Dangerfield TX bef 1850. Because of the horrors around here during the Civil War, George may have taken his family to join them. Or he may be in a county we've not yet researched. Hope this is helpful. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them. Goodman, born abt.1838 in KY. He was my Great Grandfather, and possibly came to Marion County with his father, Joseph, b. 1818 in KY (or it could've been his older half brother or an uncle, we aren't sure) around 1850. We cannot connect him with anyone specifically. We are trying to find out if he was the husband of Elizabeth Flippen. Any help would be tremendously appreciated. Patti Goodman McSwain

    3. Yolanda, if you could supply me with some dates, I might be able to come up with something for you. Names of other people connected with Thomas B Everett - parents, siblings, wife, children - would also be very helpful. We have quite an extensive database on the Everetts as well as several historical sources we can search for you, but we'll need a bit more information to work with. 3. Good Morning. Thank you so much for your kind words about the Marion Co site. I really do appreciate them ! As for the Crawford Cemetery I don't know but I'm forwarding your message to the Marion Co e-mail list which has lots of very knowledgeable folks who might be able to help. <LIST FOLKS - remember to reply directly to Michelle - [email protected] Linda homepage: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~haas MarionCoAR: http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion/ TulsaCoOK: http://www.rootsweb.com/~oktulsa2 MuskogeeCoOk: http://www.rootsweb.com/~okmuskog SurnameLists: H.A.A.S/H.A.S.S. Linda, I am new to internet usage, so I am learning alot about searching etc. I just wanted to say I really enjoyed your website. I can tell you really enjoy putting this together and you have kept it very user friendly!!! I searched another site for cemeteries in Marion County but they only listed one! I thought surely someone would have a better listing than that and I was right! I love how you have the locations of each cemetery. I found everyone I was looking for except one: Crawford Cemetery. My father-in-law has kinfolk buried there so I know it exists. My mother-in-law has a copy of all of their kinfolk buried at about 6 of the Marion County Cemeteries. Several family members that we know of are buried in each. Do you know anything about the Crawford Cemetery? I think it is a small one that got started on private land. Do you list these? Thanks......KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!! Michelle Burleson [email protected]
