Here's the location of the Midway Cemetery as described by the Corps of Engineers. Midway Cemetery: Located west of Midway on the road that passes by Midway School and through the town of Midway. 10 miles southeast of HWY 14 and 1/2 mile northwest of Midway School. The cemetery is built with part of it in section 4 and part in section 3, south of Midway T20N, R16W. Here's the location of the Fairview Cemetery. Fairview Cemetery: is about 4 miles north of Flippin on State Road 178 in SE 1/4 of S31 T20 R15. It consists in part of Wildcat Cemetery which was moved when Bull Shoals Dam was built. Wildcat cemetery was on Jimmies Creek near Kingdon Springs in the area that was covered by the lake. This is a large, well kept cemetery and is much used. Fairly close to each other from the land descriptions, but far enough apart to definitely be separate cemeteries. Mysty [email protected]
After reading Mysty's e-mail I guess I have the wrong cemetery. I do know there are Kings in the Fairview Cemetery, which at one time was called Midway. Don, Thanks for the note, I am out of town for a week or so. Please remind me after 19 June if I forget. The Cemetery I am sure you refer to is called the Fairview Cemetery. It is beautifully maintained and was just recently expanded by double the size. It is currently being used for burials. After I get back I will be glad to go over and look up your graves and record the data on the stones. Don Ott At 06:47 PM 10-06-02 -0500, you wrote: >Hi Don. Hello to Everyone, Following is an important message from ROOTSWEB. Please don't reply and don't discuss this on the list as it takes up precious archive space. Lisowner Rhio Gillis ====================== Beginning Monday, 10 June 2002, RootsWeb will begin the complex and time-consuming process of upgrading our servers to new hardware. What does this mean for you? Well, it means some servers will be unavailable during this time unavailable and we are asking for your patience. For up-to-date information about the different resources, you can visit http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ as the move progresses. List Administrators: When the time comes to move list servers, we will be halting operation on the machine to complete the move. We expect to have the machines down the least amount of time possible. No mail will be sent from or posted to your mailing lists. We do not expect to lose any messages. Board Administrators: Nothing, unless your board happens to be gatewayed to a mailing list then the information for list administrators apply. Web Pages: FTP will be down so that changes can't be made to pages until everything is working correctly on the new servers. There will be a short time that the pages will not be available as the transfer takes place. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we go through a few "growing pains."
After I posted a message a few minutes ago I received this which explains it better than I did. **************** Subject: [IMPORTANT] RootsWeb Upgrading to New Servers Beginning Monday, 10 June 2002, RootsWeb will begin the complex and time-consuming process of upgrading our servers to new hardware. o What does this mean for you? Beginning today and continuing for the next few days Rootsweb will be moving some web sites (Marion Co AR is one) and some of the e-mail lists to new servers. There will be off and on delays in posting messages to the e-mail lists and accessing some web sites. If you host a web page on Rootsweb there will also be interruptions in the FTP process. Please be patient as Rootsweb does this housekeeping. Thanks. Although Linda neglected to note the email address for Don Hicks, I'm responding to the list in hopes that others may know more then I've found and that Don will see this. On the Marion Co web page http://www.rootsweb.com/~armarion under Cemeteries are two pertinent options. One is Location of New Cemeteries and the other is Family Cemeteries # 1. I have the book "Cemeteries of Marion Co AR" by Lester and Marian Burnes (1989). In this book, basically the same information is given as on the web page regarding burials in Midway Cemetery from Kings I Cemetery. There are no dates. According to "Cemeteries" apparently few if any gravestones were found at Kings I Cemetery when it was moved to Midway by the Corps of Engineers. Since that time a forest fire apparently engulfed Midway Cemetery destroying some of the wooden grave markers supplied by the Corps of Engineers at the time of removal. In 1973 several area residents cleared the land of its vegetation. Shortly after that men by the names of Bill Jones and Jake Joppa began the project of replacing the rotten wooden grave markers for all the graves whose names were known. This project was completed by the Welcome Ridge Extension Club. George and Florence McCracken are noted as care takers and deed holders for Midway cemetery George McCracken was born in 1903 and died in 1988. I have no notations regarding his wife Florence nor of their offspring. I'd suggest you contact the Office of the County Clerk at the courthouse in Yellville AR to see if they know how to contact members of the Welcome Ridge Extension Club for further information. The Kings listed in Midway Cemetery as having been removed from Kings I Cemetery are Emma King, William King, Nancy King, John C King (possibly John Cowdry King, son of Samuel Pate & Tennessee [Sanders] King, b MCAR aft 1900), James F King, and ___ King. Sorry I couldn't be more specific, but maybe some of this will be helpful to you. Believe you will find that Catherine "Katie" Wood born about 1794 in Kentucky is the wife of David Womack. It is said that when they moved to the Hull bottom on the White River she planted an apple tree. Sixty years later it was cut down and a section was taken to the World's Fair in Chicago of 1893. Her tree won as being the largest on exhibit. Don At 05:27 PM 03-06-02 -0400, you wrote: >I found the following on the Womack board. Reta, "Genealogies of Marion Co Families 1811-1900" says on page 460: Catherine "Katie" Wood (daughter of Abram Wood Sr, sister of Abram Wood Jr and Rachel [Wood] Hurst) b KY ca 1794 d MCAR 1850/60 m [Bedford Co. TN ca 1814] David Womack b TN ca 1793. Settled on Upper Fallen Ash Creek, later moved to Hall Bottom on White River [where the Dave Hall family lived before 1860]. Here Katie planted an apple that was cut down over 60 years later. A section of this tree took the premium as the largest section of the largest apple tree on exhibition at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. Doubt this is the David Womack you're looking for. This one never had a wife named Elizabeth. I found the following on the Womack board. Can anyone give me more information? Does anyone have a list of David and Elizabeth's children? Reta I think we have pretty much determined that James Wiley Womack was the son of David Jr. sp Elizabeth. Recently recieved some information that needs sourced concerning Elizabeth: (MARION CO., AR. INFORMATION Pioneer Abram Wood had a sister, Katie, that married David Womack. It is said that Womack built the first residence on upper Fallen Ash; the place usually known as the Joe Rowden place, near the Noe graveyard. Womack was living there in 1830. Afterward, the family moved to what is now known as the Hull bottom on White river. Could Katie be Elizabeth wife of David? RGW)
