    3. June, AOL has a method for URLs that is "different" from other ISPs. In this case, you can avoid all this by going to the Boone Co site, scrolling down to Rock Fence Genealogy, and linking from there. 3. Sue, your Layton family is far from gone! You need to contact Jerry Layton [email protected] He has more info on your branch of the Robert Layton family than you can imagine. I knew Miss Opal Layton, wife of your father's twin brother Lucien Augustus "Jack" Layton - quite a gal, she was. Vividly remember seeing her house being moved to make way for the Bank of the Ozarks - happily sitting on the huge trailer, slowly moving down the road, curtains a-flying at most every window. It was quite a site - and, apparently a happy one for the old house. Jerry's their son - lives in Sand Spring OK last I heard. So, you have at least one first cousin out there with lots of information for you. Don't forget, however, that the Historic Genealogical Society of Marion Co has "Genealogies of Marion Co Families 1811-1900" available to you for more details on most of the families related to the Robert Layton (b VA 1746/7) family as well as their descendants - right down to your dad. It can be ordered from HGSMCA, PO Box 761, Yellville AR 72687 for $60 + $5 s/h. Oh, by the way, Leslie Lycurgus Layton (twin son of Arthur & Pearl [Hutchison] Layton) was born Yellville 9 Aug 1903 and died Moses Lake WA ca 1983 and married ca 1939 Lola James (daughter of Warren W & Edna Agnes "Aggie [Wickersham] James) d Moses Lake WA ca 1985. 2. I have been very fortunate for several of the older people of the Lead Hill area to entrust me with their collections. The family of Alma Gaines loaned me her collection of obituaries and funeral cards she collected of her friends and acquaintances from the Lead Hill area. I think she put it together in the mid 1980s so there is just a few in the 1950s and 1960s but more in later years. Many of them were born in the late 1800s and included people in the Peel, Lead Hill, Harrison, Diamond City, Bergman, and Omaha. Some include both an obituary and funeral card. There is 289 files but some have 2 files -- one for obituary and one for funeral card. We have put the index up on the Rock Fence Genealogy sight. If you find one you want, please email me at [email protected] and I will send you a JPG file for the ones you request. Be patient as the camera I took these pictures with is a large format camera. 3. Lucian and Leslie Layton [b. 1904] were children of Arthur and Pearl (Hutchinson) Layton. Lucian married Opal Hudspeth and Leslie m. Lola James. Their family is recorded in Genealogies of Marion County Families, 1811-1900, p. 238-240. I remember the name of someone who lived in Yellville when I grew up there in the 1950-1960s. Would have to check with my father and mother to get more information. Jack Layton's wife played the piano at the Yellville Methodist Church which I attended. I'm sure others on the list probably remember Lucian. Hope this helps. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo.

    3. just for further info, not connected to this family My husband checked for polystitic kidney because his dad, uncles, aunts and cousins had died from it....the dr said a lot of people live a full life and never know they have it and it is revealed in an autoposy. It is a hole in the kidney, of course covered by a light skin but not muscle.... The disease is passed on from the mother to the children...so my husband could not get it from his father...but we have to be aware that our girls can pass it on to their children.... My father in law had it passed on from his mother and her family. They were here by ship straight from Germany, full bloodied. Did not ask dr if it runs in nationality lines. I just about hit the floor just now when I saw your posting. Dortha passed away Monday (4/28/03), and I was doing a search in Google to make sure I was spelling "Sasakawa" correctly for her obituary. I have to say I was pretty shocked to find "Pee-Wee" and "Edith" in the second hit. I don't know if I will have any additional information for you, but my father, John, is still alive, and he met Mom in Norman, OK back in the mid-1950s, so he will probably be able to provide something for you. I was always stumped by the fact that in my whole life, I never met any of my uncles, and that Mom never really talked about her family at all. In the last few years, largely because of my mother's prolonged illness with Polycystic Kidney Disease, and because of its hereditary nature, I've learned that Edith probably suffered from it, too, and that migt have been her cause of death. I will definitely ask Dad for some specifics. I'll go back and read your posting now with my mouth SHUT, and see what all you're looking for. PLEASE write back if you get this message. I am constantly amazed at the power of the Internet! If you want to email me directly, my address is [email protected] Monica

    1. [ARMar] DeShields - Stiles - Donnell - McKey
    2. On July 4, 1905 or 1907, Sarah Stiles DeShields and one or two of her children drowned when a hard rain started while they were at the Lead Hill Picnic. They started home but when they came to the Raley place, the stream had swollen and several waited to cross. Sarah's husband Seib DeShields (a very strong and capable person) made the decision to cross the stream to get his family out of the weather and before the stream got higher. This was a bad decision. The wagon turned over and Sarah and their child died. I understand the child was a girl and older. Some stories say two children. The problem is, I do not know who the child or children are. I have checked the census records and at this time I cannot determine which child it is. I believe it was a girl. Sarah says she had 9 children and 7 were living in 1900. All 7 are accounted for. I was told by an older relative that a child named Babe was buried beside Sarah. That Babe was retarded but she was not a baby but called Babe. Also it was told Babe was an excellant house keeper. I suspect since she and Sarah was buried together that she is the child. Can anyone help me on this? This is the ones that might be possible: Margaret DeShields married G C Donnell in 1900 Mary E DeShields was said to have married John Richey but I question this She was born in 1880. Cora S DeShields married Lonzo McKey in 1899 I feel it was probably Mary E DeShields who was called Babe. Can anyone help me on this? I suspect one of the local papers wrote something on this as it was a tragedy, but I have not found anything on it. It is just family stories. Would like to correspond with the Donnell and McKey families. Have information to share. Reta

    3. Mary, I probably know very little more and maybe less about Perry G. Carter than you know. As I recall he was born ca. 1825 in SC, served in the Civil War in Tennessee and then moved to Cross County Arkansas. As the Marion History History states it was to swampy for him so he moved to the hills about 1869/70. He served as Marion county Treasurer. He died at about 50 as I recall and olive was able to hold on to he house until it was bought by their daughter Lilly and W.R. Jones. Lilly and W. R. were married about 1895. As I recall from the stories in the Echo, Mrs Carter ran a boarding house all those years. The house is listed in the Nationial Registry #87000979, it was listed in 1987. I have looked at the entry and very little information is given. Only that it is still privately owned and occupied. Will put a copy of this on the county list, maybe someone will know a lot more than I do and be able to help you. Hope this helps.
